Would be very dumb of Microsoft to push this to a ban. Germans loves Google Maps and will really hate Microsoft forever.

i was under the impression it was just the opposite. germany generally distrusts google due to privacy concerns with maps and street view/earth.

Obvious to any German that this isn't written by a German. So what is the source of your knowledge about Germans' attitude towards Google Maps?

Reading the article, this thing has nothing to do with privacy concerns etc. Looks like Motorola started this all by suing Microsoft about h.264 patents (and I suppose Germans love h.264 movies just like everyone else and would hate Google forever if they had to give them up, especially considering the role of the Fraunhofer Institut in the creation of h.264), and this is a case of Microsoft countersuing.
