Apple needs to allow third party maps apps to be able to use the lock screen. Also, we need a user default setting for maps applications as I hate tapping an address and having Apple Maps open.
Why would you voluntarily buy the inferior native navigation almost every car comes with?
Never experienced lag with Apple Maps voice prompts, but did notice some lag a few years ago with Google Maps.
Are you sure your impression is based on current reality, or some brief testing years ago?
Yeah its kind of weird. I have found the island to be a little handy for quickly getting to what is playing, or what is happning on the device, but I have not seen hide nor hair of a live activity.Even Apple hardly uses it, if at all.
I have owned Apple stock since Jobs returned. I worked for Apple as aggregator in the SMB section for 11 years. My wife and I together own at least two of everything Apple makes, with the exception of the iMac and Mac Pro. Our home is automated with HomeKit. We use Apple Maps all the time. Just not in the car. The NAV system in our 2023 Volvo XC40 works with the the touch of a steering wheel button and a vocal command. Instantly. The same action with Siri works sometimes, sometimes not. In addition, Siri only responds dependably to one voice: the one on the attached phone. We found ourselves yelling like idiots trying to get it to respond at times. This NEVER happens with the car's NAV system.Spoken as a true non-user of Apple Maps. 🤣
When's the last time you did a side-by-side comparison against CarPlay?
I guess you have never heard of CarPlay.Apple and Google maps are pretty much useless compared to the built-in NAV systems on any decent car made in the last 5 years. And should you really be looking at your phone's map while you're driving???
It's always included in the higher trim levels, and who wants a base model, even if you could find one? Also, because it works. And there's no lag. Maps are perfect and have pictorial representations of points of interest (You should see the picture of the Kansas City Keeper of the Plains statue and the river on my NAV!). Updates available at no charge online. Turn by turn voice instructions come quicker than Apple or Android maps. Tighter integration with the car's voice controls and dash screen. Not having to say "Hey Siri." Other than that, can't think of a thing.

Nope. Never use CarPlay for Maps. The NAV in our 2023 is just plain better.Big fat lol unless you are being sarcastic

Indeed. Things changed in the last years, so today I’m using Google only for bike… I’m really glad to get rid of everything offered by GoogleApple Maps is as good or better now. Google needs to realize slow rolling iOS development doesn’t work anymore. They need to dedicate more effort toward the product.
