Just like most of the features launched on new models. It's all an excuse to sell them, and then Tim Apple the big genius takes his time to implement them, sometimes even years.
They didn't have any of the API stuff in iOS 16 until the full public release. Apple wanted to keep it secret because that is Apple's M.O., not surprising. Stuff like this takes developers time to implement, so the slow uptake on it also shouldn't be surprising 🤷‍♂️

Yet strangely Google still won't implement incident reporting in CarPlay, despite Apple Maps and Waze (which Google owns) having incident reporting in CarPlay.

I don't really see this being for drivers, but rather passengers that are using the phone while navigation is active. This brings the instructions while someone else is using the phone for another purpose. The driver should not be touching the phone, so it just stays in the navigation app, full-screen. Is there something that I'm missing?

Other purposes could be when a call comes in or during non-driving navigation (walking, bus, etc.), allowing the navigation to co-exist with other apps that are being used.
No that's correct. For the driver the Maps App should be front and center. I only see this good for passengers with no screen in the car. I don't even agree it's good for pedestrians. Keep Maps open and pay attention to where you are walking.

Would like to see sports scores that aren't tied to the apple tv app. Unless I am missing any third party sports apps that support it yet?

Seems like Dynamic Island has been pretty much ignored since release. Splashy intro, but has gone nowhere. I barely notice it on my 14 pro.

So far disappointed with what's been done with Dynamic Island. It seems to have so much potential that remains unused.

Well, I don't think you're meant to notice it. I love that notifications such as my AirPods connecting happen there instead of coming down over something I may be viewing or trying to swipe down on.

Anyway, add Amazon parcel tracking, to apps I wish were supported by live activities.

Well the update is out but all I see is something in the island, nothing on the Lock Screen.

How does it display on a standard iPhone like the 13?

It seems like the few apps I’ve used that would support dynamic island just use a persistent notification ala Android.

This may actually technically be a “live activity” but I don’t really understand the difference in practice.

One of course is more fancy with the dynamic island animations but they seem to me functionally equivalent. Not sure if more than one can run at a time but if they can then Apple basically just reinvented Android’s persistent notifications except lacking controls.

True! Still annoying though. It really makes it not worth upgrading at launch, to a certain degree.

I totally get it. Apple could have had it in the Betas and given developers more time to work through how their apps would interact with the Island so that it would be ready for launch. As corny as it sounds, I think Apple likes to do the whole "surprise and delight" thing when they can with their announcements, so it was a surprise. But yeah, not as much of a rush to upgrade at launch when there will be minimal 3rd party support for a while.
