Here is what I see with comparison to Apple Maps. Much more deail in AM.

I have been using the satellite view. Switch to that and see if you notice a lot more POI. I think the non-satellite view of google maps looks terrible on CarPlay.

[doublepost=1537373080][/doublepost]Not very good in my opinion. The normal view looks a lot like Apple maps but it doesn't even have the 3D buildings. The satellite view is much better but the resolution is not high and the screen redraw makes it hard to read the street names. Also, I have an Audi without touch screen so zooming, moving and basically doing anything is slow and difficult. It takes too many clicks just to zoom or to find a destination.
Maybe I am biased because my car already has Google Maps navigation built-in, which looks much much better than the CarPlay version. View attachment 783899View attachment 783900View attachment 783901View attachment 783902View attachment 783903

I have always been a big fan of built in infotainment systems if they are done right. Most of the luxury brands are way better than CarPlay.

Hmm. On late model Honda Odyssey’s a very powerful feature of Google Maps via CarPlay is unavailable — the microphone doesn’t work. Lack of voice input is baffling.

Think of CarPlay as an app built into iOS. The infotainment center basically just acts as a monitor for CarPlay, so new firmware for the car should be unnecessary.

So basically, yes. Cars which support CarPlay should support CarPlay for time and all eternity, unless apple changes the protocol with which phone and infotainment center communicate with each other.

Used this today- works well. I can’t get the microphone in google maps to work though. It appears to be “listening”, but never stops listening and never picks up any audio. Maybe it’s just me?

Actually, I was wondering the same. The problem I have now is that when i am connected to carplay ( ever since the update) my apple map. and now google map and waze seem to always get directions messed up and half way through the drive will not be able to pinpoint my location. So i tried disconnecting from carplay and then all the maps work fine thereafter.
