The entire point of GPS applications is to route you using either the shortest or fastest route. You really can't complain about this at all since that is the whole point of the app.

Uhm what? The point of the app is to route me to my destination, with it being my choice whether I want the fastest, without tolls, most scenic etc. The problem is when Google Maps decides to automatically change the route WITHOUT even asking or indicating it did. At least Apple Maps and every other navigation program ASKS if you want to change your route. That’s my issue.

Strange, I don't recall coming across that personally. The few occasions where a different route became a better option for some reason I recall getting a prompt for it.

It does ask, you probably just didn't see it and it accepted by default. Maybe not the best interface, but it does. If you really want that much control over your route, you need to set waypoint destinations along the way to get you there. The vast majority of people only want shortest/fastest route, so that's what they focus on.

It will tell you it found a new route and ask if you want to accept, but the accept button is the default and it will automatically accept it after 5 seconds or so.

Significant update.

Just need IOS to have an option to make Google Maps the default Map app, where Siri opens it instead of Apple Maps.

Or, to have 'Ok Google' work without the need to open the Google App.

Yeah, they don't have that on iPhone either, and obviously won't for a long time.
