So, Meet is basically Hangouts again. Well that was a waste of literally ****ing years. Duo is now pointless.

Also "rolling out over the next few weeks." Google really doesn't understand customers sometimes.

Still, at least it's got more of a hope than Stadia.

I'm getting app fatigue from all these video apps, and Google itself has several already.

Hangouts, Facetime, Skype, Teams, WebEx, Zoom, Meet, Duo, Facebook, GoToMeeting, when will it end?
And annoyingly, due to so many people/companies choosing to use different ones, I have found myself having to have an account on virtually every single blooming one. Including Facebook owned ones. {Shudder}

Can they make the mute button stop hiding every .025 seconds? so frustrating to have to keep clicking just so I can see it to click it again.

Every time I use Google Meet teaching my online classes, the quality of it stinks compared to other online videoconferencing. This is from my own experiences.
Same here. Couple of tips if you haven't already tried them: I did find that using Chrome is better than Safari. Also, downloading the Grid view extension for Chrome makes everyone visible at once.

To the extent possible, I avoid downloading apps and creating accounts and instead just use the "join as guest" option via web browser.

Command + D is the keyboard shortcut to mute and unmute

Meet supports grid-view built in, no need for the extension. Try it out, your experience might be a lot better https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/04/see-up-to-16-google-meet-participants.html

My work uses this. So that’s why the Google Meet stuff showed up in the Gmail sidebar last week. It’s okay, better than Zoom since Zoom has so many weird issues, but still Google and would prefer to not use that stuff for work. At least I hope since we’re paying they’re not spying. I use a separately logged in browser (Chrome) for all of my work Google crap. The biggest downside is you can’t replace your background. Apparently you used to be able to but they removed that feature.

So that's why Zoom's (ZM) stock price is down almost 7.5% today while overall market is up.

Using Facetime here but two issues:
  • Restricted to Apple users
  • The bouncing bubbles (speaker image increasing to take more space on the screen) make some people sick
Won't make me use a Google solution though.
I used to think like that. Then I found out that with everybody else in virtual meetings, be it Zoom/Skype or whatever, a single hold out pretty much only dies himself a disservice.
Mind you that's work. Not sure what you're using yours for.

iMessage has become such a strong reason to buy an iPhone, I’m not sure Apple will ever go there.

iMessage? Really? Why? This is like saying iPhones to-do app is the reason people buy iPhones over other smartphones. There are other to-do apps and they are even cross platform.

Another google communication tool with a confuse naming.
yes!

It's amazing how a company like google, that was pioneer in online chatting, with gtalk, which btw was a huge success, until google decide to kill it and replace it for the next big thing, could screw up so bad in this field...

No doubt so they can get more faces in their databases in order to snitch to the jackboots in our state and city governments who now revel in being able to lord over our lives courtesy of Covid-19.

I just dont trust google........

Google is bad.... OMG so bad..... tracking and selling my data :(

....hold on while I share mounds of info and pictures about myself and family all over social media....

What was I saying?.... Oh yeah that Google is horrible.
