I'm no fan of Zoom personally, but the way these software giants like Microsoft and google reacted, it's disappointing. Microsoft and Google could've opened Teams and Meet to the public from day 1 if they wanted to. But nope. Right now, nobody cares about Teams or Meet anymore. Even soccer moms and lay neighbors are using Zoom, and they don't care about any security issues.

The fact that even Google decided to roll this out so slowly simply means they don't actually care. Really disappointed. As much as I dislike Zoom, I applaud them for disrupting the market as these giants just don't seem to be bothered. Microsoft repeatedly tell regular outlook accounts to use Skype instead, while Google just let people use the old and "abandoned" Hangout.

Nothing like Zoom to compress a 2 hour PowerPoint presentation with audio and embedded short videos inside plus laser pointer into a mere 100 MB or so “.mp4” movie. Really amazing and awesome for lecturing at the University in this coronavirus pandemic!

This should be good for all Google users

Why wouldn't they ? Google hasn't exactly got a leg up on Zoom, and i can't see Google saying "Don't use us"

More video apps! Just feels like everyone is 'taking advantage' of the current situation to push their offering. Can't say I blame them as business is business. Zoom has been rock solid and my partner uses Microsoft Teams! (Sorry!) lol.
