The defenders will soon be here trying to explain how Apple was not at fault and that the company is really trying to put privacy priority # 1 (ha...ha...ha).

Waiting for people to actually know what they are talking about before speaking, but I am aware it will never happen. Privacy and security are two different things by the way, and writing non exploitable code is impossible, but who cares about facts nowadays...

Android allows you to use a completely different browser as the default.

You haven't answered the question, they are talking privacy yet taking Googles money to be default search provider. Thats doesn't make any sense.

Cynics would say they care about privacy as long as it doesn't hurt their bottom line.

Yet iOS offers all features needed to avoid google tracking you and showing you their targeted ads, and they are N by default, are you aware of that? Additionally, the only other search engine they could use as default that won’t track you is Duck Go Go, that would never be able to handle the traffic, and, more importantly, Google is the best search engine the one that 95% of people would go for anyway, so why not making money from it? Your point makes no sense at all.

Every software has errors. They removed it within 7 days. All Apple devices received the fix the same day.

How is it on Android?
Fix will reach the promile of devices, the producers will not update them.
These were iOS specific bugs. And no, not every iOS device is patched. Sorry. They are not. Seriously.

They did go public already. In vivid color. They just didn’t disclose the websites that were exploiting the vulnerabilities.
Apple knows. You don’t need to know. It’s on a need to know basis.

That reads like Android 10 needs them before release unlike other versions of Android. We get monthly security updates without needing a new OS version. That's why there is a security patch level and OS version number.

You’re being disingenuous. For the umpteenth time I’ll post Googles statement on this, since people always seem to forget it.

Exploitation for many issues on Android is made more difficult by enhancements in newer versions of the Android platform. We encourage all users to update to the latest version of Android where possible.

You might be getting security updates, but you're not getting ALL mitigations for ALL exploits if you're running an older version of Android. You're basically getting what they are capable of patching. If there's a change to the kernel to counter a specific threat, then how are you going to get that patch if your device is running an older kernel with a different code base?

So Apple is committed to privacy but happy to do business with those that aren't. Gotcha.

For someone that has nothing but cold contempt for Apple, you sure do own a lot of Apple products.

Not your business but I have not purchased an Apple product in almost two years. This being the period in my opinion that they have lost the plot and turned into something very different and objectionable to many long time customers. You may feel differently and that is fine.

The real question. Why has the industry as a whole, repeatedly embraced web technology that compromises browsers. Spotlight the advertising dollars, the surveillance big data economy, and the media platforms that are driving the industry. Make browsers simple and secure. Make the website technology adapt to providing desirable content under secure private conditions.

I have to agree with those asking about the identity of the known malicious sites, as well as a simple request for the url of a fix. How about publishing the legitimate address where an iPhone user, (perhaps a user that bought one second hand), can log in and ensure that the operating system is clean and up-to-date.
There’s really no need for that. Apple got you covered. All you need is to run the latest version of iOS. Or don’t you trust Apple?

Sorry, but they aren't mutually exclusive. Using your logic I could claim:

"Apple doesn't care about privacy since Safari lets you visit any website you want and doesn't protect you by blocking bad sites."

or

"Apple doesn't care about privacy because they let me enter my real name and credit card number into website forms to buy products online.

You can allow people to use services that they'll probably use anyway, and put restrictions in place to substantially reduce your exposure. This is what Apple does.

And Apple is short of money??????
Nobody here either said that or suggest it. Researchers need money to pay their bills, and Apple isn’t paying our bills. Google does.

Here’s an example. I personally worked 18 hours a day, for over ten years, to get where I am right now. This would have been impossible without money from Google.

Ok, but my point is I see certain people criticizing Apple over this when Android has their share of vulnerability issues.

Talking point meme that has been beat to death, however good for Apple that they can profit on their ecosystem.

Ah so they are just "allowing people to use services that they'll probably use anyway" (in exchange for a $9-12 billion annual fee)

When Apple takes the fee from Google they are indirectly profiting from Googles ad business.

Seems that the exploit made use of 14 (yes 14!) vulnerabilities that had been around for two years! Perhaps if Apple tested their OS as diligently they might have been aware sooner.

It's all very well preaching that Apple products can't get viruses, and this might have worked when it was a niche platform, but now the user base is vast and this perceived invulnerability is now very much worth taking the time and effort to exploit. Apple have done themselves no favours selling this line to their users who will now question what they've been led to believe.

Let's not also forget that anything before iphone 6S wont get a security update for this anyway.

Correct, but researchers select the target OS they like to work on. No Android for me. I personally like to work on MacOS and Apple made it possible.

Apple's loss then it seems. Is Tim and the brain trust in the circle HQ happy and content to have Google (those evil anti-privacy baddies) find and point out security vulnerabilities that Apple should find themselves? I guess so as it saves Tim some $$ and that is all that matters.

I'm not sure why you think I'm jumping around. Logging into google on safari keeps you logged in. Searching in the search bar takes you to a logged in site that tracks your data.

Regardless, Google requests your location and Apple allows it. None of that is privacy forward.

You go take some time and figure that out because it's fairly straightforward. There's nothing else to discuss.

You do have the option of disabling location services for Google-built apps.

The exploit has been around for two years!

Also your solution is not possible for users of older devices ie iphone 6 and below who can't update to latest ios.

No, that's cool, I just found it interesting. It's also interesting that you continue to lurk here even though you hate Apple so much. I, for example, abhor Google so I don't use any Google products, there are plenty of better alternatives out there IMO. But I also don't go to Google and Android forums just to express my disgust with them and then tell people it's "none of your business" when they question me about it. But I've never really been a petty person so I perhaps that sort of behavior is difficult for me to understand.
