I had a few apps on Google Play last year and what an awful experience. Because they have a 100% refund policy for the first 2 hours after you buy an App (it might have changed but used to be a full 24 hours) I had 70% of my sales refunded to people, they would buy my app, watch the videos and look at the photos and then return it for a full refund. Ugh!

I wish Apple had this. I can't tell you how many times I've wasted a buck or two on an app that promised to deliver so much and did nothing of the sort. It really cuts down on crap paid apps because...well...people will just refund.

Not that this is directly related but with the let down of ios 7, mostly paint (ugly paint at that) and little functional improvements android is becoming more and more intriguing for ios users to jump ship.

The play store is definitely catching up in content especially usefull content. There are a lot of garbage apps on both platfroms.

I disagree VERY strongly with your opinions of both iOS 7 and the Google "play store".

iOS 7 isn't even out yet. Why would people be jumping ship based on it?

Well my opinion on the look on iOS 7 is subjective so to each his or her own. Also, I don't see anything that iOS 7 brought that is revolutionary and someting you couldn't already do on Android.

Since your are clearly an apple fanboy do you have experience with google play store? Most of the main apps that people use on iOS are on google play. The only app that I would really miss at the moment that isn't available on google play is Mailbox. It's a pretty big one for me since my main use for my smart phone is messaging and email.

I do love being able to browse apps on the desktop browser, and click install and choose a device for it to go to. Also being able to buy and play music/movies/tv shows/books/magazines through the browser too is brilliant.

Apple needs to get their online act together I think. iCloud.com is a joke.
I buy apps, movies TV shows and books from iTunes and it is available to all of my devices. And iTunes is safer. I know I'm in the store and buying something. No modified web code can trick me into buying something. Why on earth would you want to play content in browser?

with all the misrepresented google stories and sources the last few days is this good info?

Because what you see now is pretty much what your gonna get. Look at previous beta's the master version have been basically the same as the beta versions with bug fixes.

I have both Android and iDevices and I have to say that I usually don't bother with Android apps unless they are from Google and/or some app that is common to all platforms. There is a dearth of quality apps on Android, which is the primary reason why people are not willing to pay for Android content.

On the other hand I am more then willing to pay $0.99 for an iDevice app, even something just to try out as generally speaking I have had more satisfaction with iTunes apps then Play apps.

I think it just makes sense that as there are more Android devices out there eventually the download numbers will skew in their direction, I mean, there have always been more Windows Apps then Mac Apps, but honestly I think Google needs to so something "significant" to improve the quality of development on the Android platform, like maybe come out with their own dev environment and language.

I watch various companies that produce their own app on TV from time to time and notice that a lot of them list iOS, but no other platform. HGTV, CNBC, as well as various mfg of products like Meridian, Mackie, Yamaha, Roland, Alesis (others) in the music/audio industry all seem to support iOS, but not Windows RT or Android. I think that the Google Android platform is really meant for kids customizing the GUI, playing games, and other non-essential non-business related applications. What surprises me is if the Android market is so big, one would think that their app downloads would show the same or similar difference in downloads but it doesn't. I have yet to see an app that is a "must have" that isn't available on iOS that's only available on Android.

In terms of quality of development? Here's what I think is the difference. An individual is generally not going to develop a high quality app vs a REAL company due to the lack of resources. Every once in a while an individual might develop a great app on their own, but it's not as likely. The other problem developing for the Android platform are the different screen sizes and resolutions and lack of standardization of what processors they are using.

Apple has only a few models to choose from and they only release so many different models each year, so it's a LOT easier to test the apps on all of the different iDevices than the different Android devices to take advantage.

I think that once iOS 7 comes out, we'll see a LOT of new apps come out and a whole new set of circumstances.

I'm wondering how things are going to work out with the transition from 32 Bit to 64 Bit apps is going to happen. Apple has already done that transition with OS X and they did it so seamlessly compared to Microsoft, i wonder how Google going to deal with that, if they are going to have problems migrating.

To me, the turn off for Android is that it just seems to be a dysfunctional method of a platform and it just seems like a shotgun approach rather than having focus and vision. I still won't take the platform seriously since I can't walk into a store and see every single product sold have the latest OS on it.

What's funny is the S4 phone is the latest, just released product and it's now running an outdated OS since 4.3 just got announced a couple of days ago. Last year's S3 is supposed to start getting 4.2.2 which was released back in Feb.

I'm surprised people even want a platform so dysfunctional as that, but I guess people ignore the fact that these are computers, and best practices would suggest only selling hardware that runs the latest OS, and make sure you products always get that latest OS until the hardware can't support it. I would be embarrassed to work for a company that sold Android devices and the product didn't run the latest OS. SHEAR embarrassment. So, right off the bat. I won't take the Android platform seriously.

Agreed web based is apps are superior. Access from anywhere and any device!

Downloads are just now catching up to Apples?
Considering how much bigger android has over apple in marketshare, this is surprising.

Really? I thought that it was known that iOS users are far more heavy users and app downloaders than Android users. I would be interesting to conduct a survey to compare Android vs Apple users: how many apps do they download per month, and how long do they stay on the device before being deleted by the user.

We can see it, but not really use it (unless you have a dev account or know somebody that does). What it looks like shouldn't be the entire story, especially when the alternative is moving to something entirely different.

I'm not surprised given that Android phones have completely replaced all of the freebie feature phones for all carriers. All of those feature phone users will more than likely get some of the basics like instagram, twitter, facebook, and a few games like angry birds or candy crush.

Coming from Android, I bought one application and pirated the rest. Honestly the Google Play store is ridden with complete garbage. Finding a good app on that store is literally almost impossible. Heck, even most quality great apps on iOS are completely crappy since so many people are pirating, they just paste ads all over the place.

In short, if I were an app developer, I wouldn't likely even waste the funds on Android at this point. iOS is still where the money is at and will likely be that way until Google fixes pirating somehow.

This is ludicrous in my opinion as someone who just moved from iOS to Android for my phone and as someone who still uses iOS on the tablet. For the everyday user, there is very little difference in the two stores. Music recording/creation is the main place where iOS is leaps and bounds ahead of the Play Store.

The only place where you are correct is that most apps on both stores are junk.

I don't trust App Annie... also why don't they show a free category? I bet it will show 99% of Android apps were free downloads.

What are you talking about? Android is NOT in the lead.

You're including tablets. But you're correct, for now. In a few years, iOS will have the same market share as the Mac. 10-15% total. Including tablets. The trend is undeniably in Android's favor. One by one, every metric will show that to true.
