Yup, no doubt about it. Google cheated with this video. Shame shame Google!

They really could have done something to hide that path! But their video is exaggerated anyway, it shouldn't be used as a scientific reference for speed :)

On the contrary, I would love to be able to measure everything this way! Finally, statistics that don't lull me to sleep during work.

They don't load the page into memory fresh. It is off the hard drive (like said), and they merely click the FORWARD button. The pages are already in cache.

Fun video but i will only use Chrome if it enables the use of plugins like adblock and noscript as in Firefox. But i doubt they will ever allow it for ad income.

it's about rendering speed.

the speed of downloading the html is a function of your net connection, not the browser software

It's completely contrived and Joe user (who these virals are aimed at) will be under the assumption that these somewhat reflect real life.

Also if you check the AllRecipes.com test against the real site they have actually modified the code and removed at least the following portions from the right column:

Advertisement area*

Most Popular Blogs
Recently Viewed Recipes
Top Searches

Yeah they wanted to do some cool experiments and get some buzz about their browser. But as what point does it become completely fake? IMO they crossed the line when they modified the actual website content outside of the dynamic site ads.

Edit: Can anyone verify , it looks like the scrollbar on the window is all the way to the bottom as well, as in what you see it the page to the bottom. if so, then it's been modified even more, removing the following areas:

This Week
Cook of the Week
Slow Cooker News Letter
A portion of the left sidebar area
The entire footer area.

I'm not even sure why they'd be so shady about it, Safari 4 and Webkit are able to load a cached offline version of the page as fast or faster than Chrome on Snow Leopard...

I think a few people are still off the mark....As has already been pointed out the Speed Tests are meant to test how quickly the browser is able to render the website. Not how fast your internet company is able to deliver internet. That being said....

Google can at times be either hit or miss with marketing schemes. This one is very creative and certainly worth the 2 mins to sit and watch it. Compare the marketing value of the Chrome Speed Tests to some of their other videos and it is easy to see that this one takes the cake!
