I love AI and think this development is absolutely fantastic because it’s the future. Some people sound just like those who predicted the downfall of humanity when the printed word was first introduced… They’re just a bunch of old fogies.
My point wasn’t about the actual merits of AI. It was about how the marketing is at odds with how most people feel about it.

Would do you love most? The destruction of the environment for a data centre or the pillaging of your data for something you can easily do yourself? It’s just making us lazier and dumber.

“Most people” isn’t the same as “iOS app store users”.
And most people isnt some article you posted or some Poll that was taken by the media. The iOS and android App Store are more representative of the actual people that use technology

The Rambler upgrade to Gboard dictation and the improved autofill capabilities are probably what are going to save me the most time. It's small improvements like this that add up. Very excited for these upgrades.

…even those of you with Android phones (you post pics on these forums and forget to hide the Android phone whilst also pretending you own iPhone)…
Does that really happen? I guess they need to clear out the EXIF data before posting. Wonder if they have Apple logo stickers covering the Google/Samsung/etc logos on their Android phones. Like George Costanza said, “It’s not a lie if you believe it.” lol

I frequent a number of tech forums, in addition to working in software, and the dislike of AI is pretty substantial in all of them.
I can’t speak about working in software part, but yes, in tech forms, people scream and cry about things,it’s not representative of the general population

Seems I‘m getting to old for all this AI bullsh***.
Same, bro. Same.
Maybe it’s time to get a „dumbphone“ to avoid getting ballet classes booked and porcelain dolls purchased by Gemini, Siri, Alexa, Copilot, Claude or some other „agent“… 🫣
The only 'agent' I want on my phone is an 'Agent Smith' to take down all the AI garbage that Google wants to put on my phone.

The making purchases thing makes me pause. Oh boy, and artificial way to pick my pocket.

Hey, I'm an Apple guy. Don't need to list all the Apple stuff I bought over the years, or converting my spouse from Android. So actually leaving the Apple "ecosystem" right now is simply not in the cards for me. All my tech stuff is Apple and it works well together and I'm happy with it. I'll be pre ordering the new iPhone in the fall whatever the PM offering is.

But, Apple better get their poop squared away quick. Ternus clearly has is work cut out for him. As was mentioned up thread the quality difference between some of the Android devices and iPhone is slowly closing, if it hasn't all ready gotten there. Google's software is making huge strides while Apple seems to wallow in the doldrums. Apple Intelligence and Siri are all ready punchlines to each others' jokes.

Apple is selling a ton of Neo's and that's great. But more and more I get the feeling this is a company resting on it's laurels or worse, hubris.

Fresh thinking at the top is long overdue and change will need to happen quickly else Apple may see themselves slowly go the way of Sears, Kodak, or Blockbuster.

WWDC better have some en fuego announcements. Not just cleaning cloths and bug fixes.
Great post.

Apple’s software seems to be stuck in the last decade with endless Ux tweaks and new features that seems to be ‘wow!’ with the slick WWDC keynote marketing and then ‘meh’ when you get to use them in September.

Hardware - 10/10
Software and services - 7/10 and starting to fall to 6

And to anyone who doesn’t think that a huge company can slowly and then rapidly decline - look at the last 10-15 years of Intel.

Sends shivers down my spine! 😵‍💫

NO ONE and especially NOTHING except me is booking classes (!!) or is making purchases (!!!!!) for me except myself! PERIOD.

It has nothing to do with age. It’s all about choice. You can choose to embrace new technology and adapt and learn or you get left behind ,your age Has nothing to do with it. That’s an excuse. here’s the thing though because you say you’re too old guess what? Nobody cares and one day you’re gonna wake up and need something that you decided long ago you were gonna ignore and then what’s gonna happen you’re gonna be screwed.

What AI is needed? Some things like real time translation of language can be useful. But what else is useful?
Well, there are billions of people on the planet and some people find one thing useful and some find another thing useful and if something is not useful to anyone, it won’t be around

Yeah, I will be honest, even as someone patiently waiting for the day Siri improves, I don’t even think if it had the best literally never hallucinates or makes a mistake LLM behind it that I would ever be comfortable with it just doing its own purchasing.
There have been so many demos within the last decade of people using the digital assistant to purchase flights or to make phone calls on a user’s behalf to reschedule appointments and I’m just like… Who on earth would ever trust this?

What this article tells me is Google just demoed Apple Intelligence.

It’s really a stunning coup for Google. After straight up copying iOS and the iPhone with Android, Google has now secured the top spot for on-board AI on two different platforms…Android and now Apple with Gemini. Even the new head of Apple Intelligence was the former head of Gemini development when he was at Google.

Oh no doubt Google is miles ahead of Apple in AI, but don’t count out Apple. Competition is good for the consumer anyway.

Whilst the AI is not something I would want based on it having server-side data access rather than device-level, the amount of posts on the first page complaining about Siri when we know the new one is less than a month away is kinda funny. Do people not read the front page?

CCP psyop. AI is an arrival tech, and they want us waaay behind. Easy to do if you get enough people to hate it.
