I have strong, adverse opinions on both Google and AI. Short of fleshing them out here, I'll just say that (for very good/first-hand reasoning) I do not have any Google apps on any of my devices. Translation: F Google.
That established, and anyone who knows me knows this next statement is so counter to my being, I agree with Google. There I said it. I need a shower. Right or wrong, OSes, as we've known them, are dead. So too are single-use apps and app stores. Over the next decade, launching an app to achieve a task will feel akin to printing out MapQuest directions to get to your destination: antiquated af. Apps will be replaced by Agents. App Stores by Subscription models. Operating Systems by Intelligence Systems (to borrow a term from the OP). Instead of spending so much time face-down in your device, inputing information, bouncing between apps, the dynamic will be much more heads up and conversational - working with your device to achieve desired results. Intelligence Systems (IS) will be enhanced by new agents, delivering new features/capabilities. Want the latest Agents on your iPhone? There's an Apple One tier/bundle for that. I'm just spit-balling, obviously. Broad-stroking for fun.
That aside, I'm super curious Apple's take on the future of OSes, apps, app stores and the stickiness of their ecosystem. In this fictitious IS-powered future, I suspect security - or at least the strong perception of - will likely be their main differentiator/what they could lean into most. "Trust us. We've vetted these agents to ensure as safe and intuitive an experience as you’ve come to expect from Apple. We think you're going to like it (or whatever catchphrase Ternus will coin)." The only certainty I know is that these are some super interesting times. Warts and all.
