Because he already has a iPhone, Timmy. It was pretty self-explanatory in his post. It sounds like nexus is his second choice after iPhone.

One of the great things about this world is you can actually like thing A and thing B, and prefer thing A without automatically having to hate thing B. Cell phones are a consumer product, not a holy war.

Oh look at you, such a beautiful mature poster... this answer is equally childish as the question it tries to mock

Welcome to GoogleRumors.
I don't understand this comment. Nor the need to actually post it. If you have an editorial complaint, fill out a form. Otherwise you might take note that this is a news/gossip site that's dedicates to not just APPLE but the industries that they are in and other OEMS that impact that industry.

I would say they do a pretty good job of filtering out the random tech news that's only tangential to Apple. But given that Android has the greatest marketshare and is a direct competitor to iOS - and that Google, is going to create their own device - this is worthy news.

If you don't - you can also just not click/read?

Actually his reply is warranted and a good reminder that people don't have to polarize their opinions.

Oh yeah!

When Google gets their name in a phone, and when they see what the reality is:
  • People complaining it's too expensive
  • People complaining that despite being cheaper, is not as good as more expensive phones
  • People complaining about hardware issues
  • People complaining about reception issues (dropped calls AND slow internet)
  • People complaining about the store
  • People complaining about battery life that's never good enough (iPhone 6S battery life is about double of iPhone 5S, people still complain, because the more it lasts, the more they use the stupid thing, and the less they want to charge it)
  • People complaining about the performance of X part where the OEM cut corners
  • People complaining because store that you go, doesn't sell it
  • People complaining because they love to go to somewhere that has to listen to them and complain

    And my favourite:

  • People complaining because the phone X doesn't have one feature like the phone Y, ignoring the fact that phone Y also doesn't have features that phone X has.
Today, Google has built a good image because they make things that people don't depend on, and accept bugs

  • like search, where you accept to scroll past the first results or redo your query
  • like when gmail incorrectly labels your e-mail and sends real mail to spam
  • like youtube, if it breaks, or stutters, it's "the internet" fault
  • like youtube recommendations, when they show you things you don't like, or are not relevant to the video you're watching
  • like when Google Maps sends you for a worse way, "it's GPS fault"

And also, are "good", but only because they are free:

  • Does anybody pay for Google Docs? No, Microsoft Office!
  • Does anybody pay for Google Voice? No, Skype!
  • Does anybody pay for more Google Drive storage? No, iCloud!
  • Does anybody pay for YouTube Red? No, Netflix!
  • Does anybody pay for Google Play Music? No, Spotify!
  • Does anybody pay for Google Maps? No, but I will gladly pay $$$ for GPS or Android Auto/CarPlay in my car!

But when the thing takes form in a device made by Google, with Google's brand, it's different... and the real problems appear

Android for example, has much less criticism than iOS because it lives in ether. It's not a real thing, when there's a fault, it's never Google's Android fault, it's always the OEM that has too much "bloat", "expensive", "bad after-sales service", or "not optimized", or "battery is too small, make thicker phones", or even "doesn't make updates".

When they have a real product, made by themselves, and not by third parties, everything changes radically!

People make unfair comparisons between the iPhone and "Android", and that "Android" is the best of all brands combined, but only the good parts.

  • Android is better than iPhone because Samsung OLED's
  • Android is better than iPhone because Xiaomi is ridiculous cheap
  • Android is better than iPhone because LG has this amazing camera
  • Android is better than iPhone because Sony is waterproof
  • Android is better than iPhone because brand X has this good feature

    But:

  • Android is not bad because bloatware, it's only Samsung's fault
  • Android is not bad because they copy Apple's designs, it's only Xiaomi's fault
  • Android is not bad because they don't send upgrades to people, it's only LG's fault
  • Android is not bad because you can only buy from shady online vendors, with questionable after sales support, it's only Sony's fault

This has to end. It's impossible to be the best at everything, the iPhone isn't the best at everything, but overall, is the best phone out there. But of course, can't fight ghosts.

BS!

Google cards with live video?

Hey Mr know it all fortune teller, why not give us the lottery numbers while you're at it since you just know everythinggg. If you hate android so much, just get a apple device if you haven't already and live in peace, knowing that you've made the smarter decision than the rest of the fools. Sounds like you've got a grudge or financial interests or nothing better to do with your life than essentially talking smack about a company/promoting their competitor.

Robbed by the taxman, impoverished by a misguided acquisition of Tesla, beaten by competitors in the mobile space and left for dead in the alley, they will survive only as a subsidiary of Government Motors. :D
This is equally sad and highly plausible, unfortunately.

I'm not guessing the future, I'm looking at the past: Motorola under Google.

Also, this is an Apple forum. People here supposedly already have Apple devices. Your argument doesn't stick one bit.

Very happy to hear this. I like to use both platforms (rocking a 6S+ for my daily driver presently with a Nexus 6P running Android N beta version 4 on the side ;)), far prefer the stock Android experience over skinned versions, but have generally been underwhelmed by the Nexus devices I've owned over the years as there alway are some level of compromises in the hardware. Considering the lower comparative price point they've been sold at, I understand it's unrealistic to expect parity with other 'flagship' level phones priced $100s more, but I've always craved a smartphones with top notch hardware like we see on the latest Galaxies yet running stock vanilla Android.

I'm not a fan of the revolving door of OEM partners Google has used for its Nexus line as to me it results in an inconsistent experience year over year. The hardware that Google has actually produced on its own has been the best they've offered (Pixel Chromebooks, Pixel C, Chromecast) and I been craving a Google produced smartphone designed to best take advantage of their software in the same fashion that Apple is able to marry their hardware and software to create the optimal experience. Really hope this rumor is true and look forward to the result.

Now if we could just get Google to produce a comparable smart watch to pair with it.....(sorry, Android Wear options very underwhelming to date, IMO).

I'll see it to believe it. Google controls the Nexus designs anyways and gives the schematics to their OEM partner(s). I have been reading that the Nexus program was done (couple of years ago) and then see the Nexus line still produce at least two or more phones since then. I have seen Google scrap the Google Play Edition program. Just stick with the Nexus and manufacturer two models then, one in house (parts through 3rd parties is fine) and the other through an OEM if they must.

Just because you doubt it doesn't make it universally so ...

Just because you have Apple stores near you doesn't make it so for everyone. Or for the the millions of apple customers who live in countries where Apple has NO apple store presence at all ...

There is way too much insular generalisation on this forum and automatic assumptions.

It may surprise, but contrary to prevailing belief on this forum, the World isn't just North America or your local store ...

Where are those Google stores?

Like any smart business they smell blood in the water and are ready to take a bite out of Apple. Declining sales, yesterday's tech for tomorrow's prices and (easiest of all to pounce on) ridiculously high profit margins. Competition breeds innovation, perhaps this'll get Apple to stop phoning it in (pun intended) and get back to their core business.

It sounds more like a defensive move, if you ask me. Their operating margin is shrinking, their core ad business is slowing and financial engineering can only take them so far.

Also, their most prized audience, iPhone users, are relying less on their services like search and maps and Facebook is eating their lunch on mobile.

They already do most of the work on Nexus phones and have spent a lot of money advertising it as a Google brand so unless Google does something drastic, I doubt this move will have much of an impact on Apple or even the Android landscape.

However, cutting the OEM out of the picture would instantly boost margins with little additional investment.

Let's hope it's a true flagship. Every Nexus phone seems to have compromises and IMO don't achieve full flagship status. I'm not sure who Google would spur since it seems to be their own contracted Nexus builders who are dropping the ball IMO. Meanwhile you have companies like Samsung who are making incredible products (although touchwiz could certainly benefit from the smoothness of stock android), and at least others like LG and Motorola are showing some cojones releasing novel concepts such as modular components. Google really really needs to pull out all the stops on a google branded phone IMO.

Looking forward to the phone that is designed and manufactured by Google.

Not sure I'll buy it though since nexus devices reach end of life in 2 years. I typically keep my phones for longer.

I don't know if Google has anything cool to offer but I'll say this, if they do: given the likelihood the iPhone 7 is going to be more like the iPhone 6S, rev2, Google's timing is right for the pouncing, much like how the original Sony Playstation mugged the Nintendo 64 (really ended Nintendo's reign as the TV console champ) or how XBOX 360 did the same to PS3 when Sony arrogantly initially overpriced it by including an unwanted, and mediocre, Blu-Ray player. (PS3 was a great console IMHO, but I'm not a gamer. It was just too expensive at launch and lost a lot of marketshare there which it could never recover).

lol, but be sure to leave out Xbox One's snafu of Kinect, $100 more than PS4, no hard copy games and a plethora of other issues and reasonings.

$50B in revenue in a bad quarter
$200B+ in the bank
478 Apple retail stores in 17 countries

Apple squashes Google like a bug if they dare to compete!

MS probably said the same about Apple 20 years ago. I think hardware is starting to matter less and less. People care about services and Apple services have not caught up to Google.

what nonsense. iphone IS apple's core business. and its an awesome one -- despite lessened sales for once, its still the best selling handset ever made each quarter, and rakes in all the profits. an insane amount of profit. it really doesnt matter that sales were a bit lower -- thats like being a bit less insanely, fabulously wealthy this quarter.
[doublepost=1467042274][/doublepost]it'll be a shame when Google drops support for their phones after reevaluating it a couple years from now. you know, like they do with everything else.

Yup, totally nailed it.

GOOG, with gross margins north of 60%, is anxious to pounce on a piece of AAPL's ridiculously high ~40% margin.

Sorry but no, everyone is entitled to it's opinion this however does not warrant a reply with a sarcastic remark, this goes to the original comment as well as the reply

Uh, I was trying to make a point by example, not give a definitive history of video game consoles. I didn't seen the need to continue on as I think I gave enough examples for illustration.
