I’d be surprised if you can’t.

Macrumors users are not indicative of iPhone users and most don’t care about RCS. It’s a vocal minority.

I use different apps for different ppl. I don’t want RCS and I’m encouraging my circle to disable.

You still never said why you want to disable it. At worst it's better than unsecured SMS. Do you use SMS? If so how is that any different? Apple has already stated RCS will be encrypted and go through their servers. Do you not trust Apple either?

Sounds like it will be RCS support but not full RCS functionality.
Even without E2EE it is positive step.

Here's the thing. RCS, as a standard, doesn't have E2EE. Google forked it and added it, but the official standard doesn't include it. So Apple *does* have full RCS functionality. What they don't have is Google's proprietary implementation.

A bit sad if that’s your attitude towards a bit of software
You all brag about wanting the choice to use alternate methods. I choose not to use it.

Im Happy with iMessage. I’m not paranoid about using sms so if someone wants to hack the group chat about our drunken Fridays or work gossip go for it. Nothing I sent via text needs to be encrypted. I use messenger, snap and Skype. I don’t have any need for RCS and it will be disabled if given the option. I’m encouraging family and friends to Dubai as well.

RCS is still wholly unreliable and truthfully this only benefits android users and I thankfully don’t talk to many for this to be an issue. Those who do I use other apps so I have no need for RCS

Finally, I'll get a better messaging experience with all my tech-illiterate iOS friends.
They chose a better ecosystem so they seem quite literate to me.

I love when I see my friends switch over to iPhones. I’m like finally. There is one that is holding out and at this point I am considering buying her an iPhone myself and getting her off pixel, bless her heart.

Funny seeing people triggered by the fact that Android will be able to communicate with their precious iPhones much more easily out of the box.
Nobody’s triggered lol. We just don’t have a need for RCS. This benefits lagdroid users. We have always had iMessage. And we also use 3rd party apps like the majority of the world does.

I wish you all would stop perpetuating that very false and inaccurate narrative

Which Platform is Signal not on that you want it on? Or What'sApp for that matter?
This was already discussed earlier in the thread a few times, but my terminology may not have been clear. My point was that RCS will not require a third party app. If you have an Android phone, you already have it. If you have a recent iPhone and the latest OS in fall 2024, you will already have it this fall.

This is not true of any of the third party apps, and in a lot of countries, you can't expect recipients to have Signal or even WhatsApp installed.

As I've mentioned before, I have neither installed, but even for the people I know who have 3rd party apps installed, they seem to be split mostly between WhatsApp and WeChat. Furthermore, most of the people I know who have WhatsApp do not have WeChat also installed, and most of the people I know who have WeChat do not also have WhatsApp installed. And I don't actually know anyone with Signal installed.

There is no "fork". RCS is extensible by design.

Means nothing to me. I'm Android-free. I don't know a single person I talk to that uses an Android.
Not sure if this is sarcasm or not.
If it is, I like it.
If it's not I'd say that you don't know everything abut everybody you talk to.

its not about paranoia it’s about wanting a better system.
Again your attitude is a bit sad

You can't say nobody is triggered and then use "lagdroid" and expect to be taken seriously. In addition to how silly it makes you sound, that portmanteau doesn't come close to working.

I know people with WhatsApp or WeChat, but I literally don't know even a single person with Telegram or Signal even installed. But I don't have either WhatsApp and WeChat installed because I don't want to have to load 5 different messaging applications. Therein lies the problem.

? Not sure what you're saying.

Basically my point is that once iOS goes RCS, it means that Android users and iPhone users alike (or at least those running the recent OS versions on relatively recent hardware) will have RCS available by default. No need to install a third party app.

I'm not going to quote your own posts back at you, you can go back and reread what you wrote.

I don't know everything about them, but I know what kind of phone they use. Blue vs green. Easy to see.

The source was deleted on Google’s site so those dates are even less meaningless than the dates provided on any promissory declarations that companies make about upcoming features.

After catching up with this thread, seeing other people's opinions, yours is the only one I don't understand. You don't want RCS...because it might be useful for other people?

I take it you also disable SMS then? Since you use 3rd party apps, you should have no need for that either.

I don’t need to use RCS because you chose to buy an android lol. Why would it matter to me.

SMS works fine for me and if I need to send a video or picture I usually send it via whatever app.

Leave RCS for android preferably but if I must have it for iOS I’m disabling it.

You’re right. It doesn’t apply to pixel or galaxies. Just 95 percent of the 1.5 billion android devices out there.

My mistake. 🫢

It works fine for them because it's always an easy buy - new apple phone/tablet/laptop gets released, they buy it because their photos are in icloud and they're familiar with the OS. Personally, I don't like being locked into an ecosystem anymore and I don't like my operating systems being locked down. I'm the consumer, I want it my way, not the way Apple decides is going to be my way. I want to run a different browser completely, not one that runs on safari. I want to choose a different media cloud - I shouldn't have to keep icloud if I want photos to backup while I'm working in another app. I don't want all my apps on the top left. I shouldn't have to shell out for another laptop if I decide a 512gb ssd isn't enough anymore. I want a tablet that can do more than my phone.

I've owned and loved a lot of Apple products since ~2010. They work beautifully if you don't want any burden of choice.

It’s going to be so funny if you can’t disable it & it’s baked into iMessage because of the new legislation from china
