what's with all the location services complaining? I thought the iPhone had the best battery life ever?

no idea... not sure when not doing anything with your smartphone just to claim better battery life began to make sense.

same people probably spend more battery playing some idiotic videogame for an hr

All works on android so if possible on ios I'm guessing it will eventually.

forgot to hit quote but it's about message and reminders

beautiful app but, i agree, far too intrusive for my liking. i need to enable location services to get the weather...? why? can't i just enter my zip and save that? i'm definitely not complaining though but i really care for my privacy too much to simply hand it over to the googs...

i would use the app if it didn't require my privacy (or the sliver of privacy i have left) to be completely done away with....

I'm trying to understand how does google use the "location services always on" feature, does this use your cellular services towers located nearest to you? just wondering because this would affect the battery meter.

I can understand why they use the always on location services but why if you are not moving or going anywhere does it have to keep it always on? It's using battery when it doesn't need to be.

For someone that doesn't use Gmail as their primary email this is basically useless. I also don't think the battery / privacy loss balances out to be worth it. It seems like a cool idea but I guess I just don't see the value. Maybe I just lead a boring life but I'm not hopping on a plane, or jetting across town for meetings every day. I have my school schedule with some gym thrown in... I can keep track of that pretty well on my own.

Part of good battery life, is managing services.

This app just locks a service on full time. It's horribly designed, broken app.

Yes this is how it is designed to work. I've said this in the first reply. If you don't want Google to constantly load your location, you have no choice but to disable location access (and google now won't work without location services permission) or simply deleting the app.

That's weird. Doesn't that affect battery life?

For me, the location awareness of Google Now has been invaluable, stopping me being late for meetings and appointments in my calendar when traffic was bad.

This also impressed me on a recent business trip to Belgium:

Glad to see it on my iPhone personally.

Just been on another forum and Android users are moaning because now they can't 'show off' how good their 'superior' phone is with their 'exclusive' Google Now.

Superiority complex bruised, hehe..

You don't have to activate Google Now to enjoy voice search. The Google app already has this in previous versions.

I realize....which is why I specifically pointed to the Google Now part.

I don't use Google voice search enough to justify giving that app a spot on my phone. On the rare occasion I do need to do that I can just go into Safari and use Siri. The delay of a couple of seconds isn't a deal breaker.

It definitely affects battery life, especially when the battery life it the iPhone 5 is not that great already.

That's horrible. Well I guess I'll just enable it when I need it and disable when I don't.

This is on my G-Nex and it's amazing, especially if you fly a lot. It always knows how far to the airport, flight number, what time it departs, weather, etc. VERY useful stuff. It can tell you how long til you get home, where your hotel is.

Using location services is kind of the point. Uninstall it if you don't like it. I love it, I also love Siri but Google Now is very useful.

I just noticed that if you go into the app and click on setting (the wheel at the top next to the down arrow) you can go into setting for the app and then click on privacy, it allows you to turn off the location services. This is the setting inside the google app, not your iphone settings. Then I lauched the app again and the location services arrow is gone but the app still works and it still gives me cards at the bottom showing me the weather in my area etc...

Then I asked for directions somewhere and it activated the location services, then I closed the app and X'ed out the app at the bottom on the task to completelty close the app and the location services arrow went away, SO it looks like you can activate location services only when you want by changing the setting inside the google app under privacy.

This is great news!!!
