The whole point of unplugging is to avoid bundling, to not pay for the channel you don't watch. Google is just replacing bundling with smaller bundle that still with unwanted channels, not dividing with popularity, but the owner of the channels.
So, if you are interested in this deal, you may want to just multiply the cost by four for the four flagship media corp (NBC/Universal, ABC/Disney, CBS/Viacom in the future, and Fox/News Corp)
I don't think that's it will be significantly lower than your current TV package

Sounds like a plan for fail. No point in yet another bundled channel mess.

Gz Google. You did the one thing that could kill YouTube. You partnered up with the dinosaurs and, in so doing, created an unsafe environment for your creators because their opinions may represent a danger to YouTube's business interests all of a sudden.

RIP YouTube.

Once again, I must remind EVERYONE...

You think getting your entertainment from some other source will be better when only this will give your internet provider the chance to take your money with data caps and tiered pricing. You are going to have to pay someone - you pick!

What are they smoking? That is a silly price. What with Cable, Cell Phone, Netflix, HBO, etc, etc ,etc
Do they think we are made of money?
Probably.
I hope this falls flat on its face.

This is obviously aimed at people who drop cable. We just dropped cable and put an antenna in the attic for the networks and use sling tv to supplement the rest. Cable bill was 160 and now we only pay 25 for sling tv.

This is the future....

I think they're missing the point of being "unplugged". How is this any different than cable TV (other than the delivery mechanism)? I don't want a bundle of channels I'm never going to watch. I will choose which "channels" I want, and only the ones I want. If a network doesn't provide one for my device, then too bad for them - they lose business. I'll say the same thing I said about Apple's proposed bundle: No Thanks!

I guess it depends on what is included in the subscription.

If it includes all the episodes of all the current and past shows on each network that participate, it could be like combining cable and Netflix/hulu into one service.

Cable cutters might like this too.

I think many people would find value in this.
Not sure it's really worth 35 per month. Most people don't watch one network and its affiliates only.

When you add in you internet cost, you already looking at close to if not over $100 per month for one network+.

No thanks.

Even if they didn't bundle, the cost for ale carte channels would be crazy at these rates.

I for one am not looking forward to $300 per month bill to replace what I already get from the cable companies.

I would agree with you, if it was only 1 network. This is what I thought at first too, but it is multiple networks in a bundle.

See:
Google offering a bundle of several channels for a set price of $25 to $40 per month.

CBS, a major network, is now on board, and Google is also said to be close to reaching deals with both 21st Century Fox and Disney, putting it one step closer to establishing a streaming service.

I have faith in Apple that when their own TV subscription service launches with a la cart channeling offerings, they will have perfected the experience. Can't wait—so sick of cable.

I think the TV guys worry that Apple would break their old school model, like what happened with music. Maybe, Tv doesn't see Google as a paradigm shifting move, and therefore less risk to their current mode and are ok with dipping their toes....

I thought The New Star Trek was coming to Crackle, and Crackle is free?

I can't quite cut the cord either, too far away from the 2 of the 3 antennas that I need to pick up. IF I could put a standalone antenna up, that would work, but living in a condo, you cannot put up that type of antenna (heck you can barely install a sat dish). Lastly, the g/f loves her local news, so that rules out Sling... :(

CBS (and Google) thinks people will pay twice as much per month for their crap content as compared to HBO's content??? What are they smoking...

I am not saying it will, but what if HBO joined the bundle networks, would you see value in it then?

Until we know more about what is going to be included, it is hard to say if people will pay for the service.

Wasn't responding to you directly in case that wasn't clear. I was just making a statement. Also, it seemed like the $25-40 was just for CBS content. CBS has more than just the main CBS channel. Just like NBC owns USA, etc.

I didn't think you were responding to me, I just thought you posted your thoughts on the article.

I thought that too by the head line, but in the article it hints that other non-cbs networks would be apart of the bundle.

My question was about if HBO was included, would the $25-$45 be worth it? I was just curious what you thought, since you mentioned HBO.

You guys have data caps?
We have tiered pricing for speed, but none of them have any data caps.

I doubt HBO will ever be bundled in a low end channel package like that. HBO will probably always be a separate purchase for cord cutters. Personally, I would never purchase a TV package from google since protecting user privacy is impossible for a company that makes the bulk of their revenue selling personalized ads.

If we're talking about a TV package in general and not from google, then yes, I do hope to be able to cut the cord one day, but for now it just doesn't make financial sense since I need the high speed internet and the TV add on is still cheaper than the cord cutting options currently out there.

You got it backward. Since Google makes the bulk of their revenues from serving people they are extremely concerned about your privacy. If there was anything that raised their customers concerns about privacy their revenues would be gone like a wind. Perhaps this is why you hear more stories about hacking at Yahoo, Apple etc than at Google.
