I miss Netscape, and a friend of mine still pays a monthly fee to AOL ( for what I have no idea).

I have no idea either, but I hope they reward your friend for his/her outstanding loyalty! The last time I was surprised anybody still used aol was somewhere around 2000 or 2001. It seemed like an anomaly back then too, but I forgot all about it.

IF Google gives us turn-by-turn now it would be solely because Apple forced their hand to actually produce something equitable to their own solution for their own Droid phones. I will not download this app solely based on Google's douche-baggery. Had Apple done nothing we would STILL be waiting for TBT directions from this ad based, personal information selling, company we call Google.

Apple is the one that developed and put the default app on iOS. It's the same reason why Google released a separate app for Youtube after it was removed from iOS. Apple controlled it. Now Google has control over both apps, so they add turn-by-turn. Whatever makes you feel better though.

Hahaha....really? Google is a d-bag because it wanted to provide a differentiating factor / feature for folks on Android vs. iOS? How is that any different than say...a company building a walled approach to offering apps and denying approval for 3rd-party apps that too closely resembled what they offered? Hrmm... if you're going to call Google a d-bag, then please be fair and do the same with Apple.

....Oh wait, sorry, you're just a fanatic with blinders. My bad.

Apple maps works fine in my area but I know there are big problems elsewhere. Still, I'll definitely be trying this app, because I'm a Google fan as well. It better be free, though. I'm not paying for it.

I actually like the aim of apple maps better but I will definitely download the Google maps app because it just works :apple:

http://youtu.be/ZNPyFEfm1qs <---friendly youtuber link wherein I talk about apple maps :D

Were plenty of alternative maps when google was on the Iphone. Considering Google never had vector & Turn by Turn is one of the big reasons why. Yes the police also issued the same warning to Google maps too.

I had to use AOL up until 2006. It was either have Dish Satellite internet and no online games or use AOL 28k dialup and still be able to play online games.

You Americans need to realize the world is much much bigger than your little bubble and it includes OTHER countries than the USA and that Apple Maps sucks. Plain and simple.
The rest of the world needs to chill out and realize that (1) lots of other mapping apps exist for iOS and are available at the tap of a finger, and (2) your map app is only as good as it works for where you do most of your travel. For the majority of us in the US it is the US, not somewhere in Northern Saskatchewan.

End of the complaints...... yea right!
Just look at the reviews for the youtube app...

It's made by Google? No thanks! Evil is never free!

I know a few people who might respond that you are absolutely right, hence the reason evil has $100 billion in the bank...

I've yet to read a story about Google using law enforcement to intimidate and bully people into returning prototypes that their employees left in bars... No company/person/government is perfect.

No. Steve told you a smaller iPad was stupid because his company didn't make one at the time.

Point is, Apple did the opposite of what Steve wanted in regards to maps and the Mini.

Steve wanted to keep Google Maps.
Steve didn't want a smaller iPad.

You're right, Steve appeared to me in a dream last night and told me this personally

This made me laugh. I've always been confused by that expression as it seems to be communicating the exact opposite of its meaning.

It's because the proper expression is "I couldn't care less". Most people incorrectly say "I could care less". It's a pet peeve of mine when someone says it incorrectly.

Similar to Apple Maps?

Cities located in the ocean?
Roads that run through buildings?
Fields marked as hospitals?
Missing islands?

There's a reason you don't hear about these problems with Google Maps - they were crushed long ago

OMG One Story! It's not like Apple issued a public apology and admitted that its maps weren't good enough...

You seem to be defending Apple for something that they've admitted they were wrong on.

Yeah sure like this one maybe

http://dcist.com/2012/06/google_fixes_map_error_that_gave_pa.php

Corrected back to just June, this is sure a long time ago.

What do you say? I guess nothing... And you surely still find a lot of errors like that.

Now I am not defending Apple's map, please read correctly. What I am saying is that claiming that only Apple's Maps has bogus data and not Google Maps is essentially wrong.

I don't think anybody did claim that.

Apple Maps has an unusually large number of significant errors and mistakes.

This is not true of other mapping services.

The article that you just linked to is possibly the most insignificant error ever made in a map. I cannot possibly see how that would be a problem for any user of the map.

WOW. I'm sorry!

I've been quite fortunate!

It sucks in the USA too. This isn't just about Americans. This is about people using Apple maps in a relatively small area that doesn't seem to be effected. That's great, but one cannot claim a maps app is fool proof after having used it on a couple dozen square miles of terrain.

What say you to someone that's used it in LA, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Oahu with NEVER a problem. Each user will have different experiences and just because someone has had problems, doesn't mean EVERYONE will.

$$$

Google should charge for the app. They know we would all pay $0.99 or $1.99. They would make a killing! Might even make Apple look worse than they already do!
