who cares. iOS is for america just like miles, feet, etc
Multi-platform, best of breed, etc. has worked exceptionally well for me both in enterprise IT (routing, switching, VPN, cloud providers, ...) and my family's needs at home for decades.

I use a Chromebook as my daily driver, a small herd of Linux systems (Raspberry Pi 3+, 4 B and 5's), Android phone (after puking from iphone 3 - 8 Plus Kool-Aid), MBP and Studio.

Plus, two Winblows laptops for work.

iOS is a puss-bloated sun roasted scalawag. There are multiple Android options that do just fine. In terms of phones, OnePlus OxygenOS and Samsung OneUI both have "pure Android" Pixel beat by miles imo

The Pixel line is the only one I'd consider after the iPhone. Times I've played with the devices they've always been fast and good hardware quality.

Samsung's just... icky in comparison. No idea why anyone would buy any Samsung over a Pixel.
I’m not sure this is rooted in reality. The S24 has an incredible camera. It’s also the only Android I’m aware of that supports something like focus modes. It’s a beast by any metric.

I used a Pixel 7A when I was travelling for a bit last year for security reasons (less likely to get done over for it).

The thing was a complete liability. Crap camera, eSIM problems, some stuff stopped working after a couple of days offline, bt crapped out constantly, serious problems with battery life on and off. Email sync issues. Also no compass apps worked on the damn thing properly - calibration was completely off.

Never again will I go near one. Went straight back to my 13 Pro and bought a 15 Pro almost immediately when it came out. Been to less dangerous places this year with the 15 Pro and ZERO problems with it.

Here's a crop of a non-zoomed photo it took in daylight. Utter and total garbage.

Fortunately I had an actual camera with me!!
Just go over to the Pixel subreddit, so many people have massive modem issues, battery drain issues and overheating issues. I think most of the problems are the Samsung modem and ARM chips/Tensor 3. Oddly enough the S24 Ultra uses the better Snapdragon chips.

Apparently the Pixel 10x is moving to Snapdragon in 2025.

Seems like a good time to exit the platform at least for me. While focus modes are slightly sticky on iOS nothing about the platform is new, fresh or innovative. It’s all derivative incremental upgrades and I’m bored. By the time I relinquish my 13 pro max I figure all the useful AI stuff Apple announced will be on Android too. I just find my iPhone incredible boring. I keep waiting for something larger than an incremental update to make me pull my wallet out and it doesn’t sound like the 16 is gonna do it. Meanwhile Android phones are doing some crazy cool stuff. All the apps I use are cross platform and I don’t give iMessage any time since there are better messaging platforms. I guess the US has some weird fixation with it. Which is fine. To each their own.

I have a Pixel 7 as a backup to my OnePlus Open. Pixels are great phones and they have my favorite flavor of Android. The Pixel Fold is a beautifully designed foldable, but it was too heavy for my liking and it also has a garbage cellular modem as well. I'm hoping the Pixel Fold 2 (or whatever the call it) is much lighter. From what I have read, it should have a better modem, which is good.
I have a Pixel Fold as a secondary phone.

The outside screen is hot garbage and too small. The inside screen is decent.

Battery life also suffers on it.

I think any folding phone is gonna be a compromised experience. And I don’t see any indication this will change anytime soon. But kudos to you for supporting their research I guess.

On the other hand, the screen(s) on the Galaxy Fold are much better. Google failed miserably in screen quality on their foldable. Since I work at a phone store, I can look at these phones everyday and notice the difference.

I like folding phones as a concept but the trade-offs are a real deal breaker. The S24 ultra and pixels are lovely though. Curious what you see folks going for that aren’t price-conscious

These phones are more accurately HTC Pixels, Google owns HTC but they have nothing to do with the design or manufacture of the phones. Go to your mobile carrier account settings and see for yourself what the phone is named.

AT&T has had a deal for S24's lately. Buy one for $10.99/month, get the 2nd for $5.99/month.

They also had a deal for iPhone 15 plus with the same deal as the S24 recently.

They're out there if you're patient.

Ugh that’s so tempting. I keep telling myself to just replace my 13 pro max battery and try to hold out another year or two but the S24 really slaps

Good to know. Will be interesting to see the changes to Pixel this year.

The Pixel 10 is not moving to snapdragon.

They're moving to TMSC who make Apples chips, they're obviously better at it than Samsung.

tensor is going nowhere, its just getting a major upgrade next year.

Unlike Apple, they're also giving the Pixel 9 series a nice 16GB RAM for on device AI.

I've owned a Pixel Fold as well. I liked the outer screen, but I agree the battery life was not great. I've had the Z Fold 5, the Pixel Fold, and now the OnePlus Open (for six months now) within the past 10 months and I still believe the OnePlus Open is the 2023 (USA) foldable of the year.

Outer screen on the fold doesn't seem like it has a very high resolution. Looks grainy to me.

I'm a Samsung convert (Flip5 currently). Samsung's s/w is far less heavy-handed now. I loved the 4 XL, but never warmed to the 7 Pro.

Any iPhone users considering the Pixel 9? I feel the images from the iPhone 15 are not that great to be honest... and loving Gemini so far..

I figure by Pixel 11, Google/TSMC should have things sorted out.

My plan is to stick with S24+ 16/512 GB until then before messing with another Pixel.
