While a small discount doesn’t necessarily indicate a new model is imminent, what should be noted is that just like the iPad’s, Mac Mini’s and ATV’s, they seem to be on a 2 year release cycle. The last ATV release was in 2022 and prior to that they were updated in 2020.

It's unusual though, Apple TV barely ever gets discounted here. I would definitely hold off buying for the next couple of months if you are in the market for one.

Maybe, but it is just too much hassle, mucking around with computers by my TV and to be honest, my Roku TV does most of what I need, I don't see the need to add anything else. The Blu-ray player is used now and again, but not as often as it used to be, I must change that as Blue-ray is still better quality than streaming.

Totally understandable, these devices are great for those who like things simple. For myself there are just things I cannot live without like user accounts (makes managing one device with a family awesome), being able to setup a server, having a full featured browser with extensions, adblocking capability, etc etc, the list goes on and on.

I used to do stuff like that, set up servers and that sort of thing, but as I get older I just can't be bothered. I just want things that work, which is one of the reason I went for a Mac.

But i did have amuck around last week with an old PC trying to get a old tape drive working on it. As for accounts, i hate the things unless i am paying for something, i don;lt see what we need one.
The main streamers, like Netflix, Disney+ and so on I can understand, you need an account so they know who you are to pay for it. In the U.K we have streamers from ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, and others including the BBC, which are free, well kind of the BBc legally require a TV licence, but they are our normal terrestrial TV channels that have streaming as well, but they all require an account of some sort. When streaming.
Why? I tell you why, data. If you want to pay for the extras then fine.
