It will probably be unlike anything you or I thought it would be. And it would be quite different from Google's or MS' implementations. Apple wouldn't dare put out the sort of crap they do.

Best thing to do is drop all the predictions (they're probably wrong anyway), let go of all your misconceptions, and just sit back and watch Apple do their thing.

It's actually very easy to predict what Apple TV set would look like: no 3D (not that I care) and useless 2 button remote control with Siri (good luck with trying to change volume level :D)

Sounds like a "bag of hurt".

The Apple way: Spend $4000 on a 40" television, you only need that size, cancel your satellite and cable subscriptions, sell your BlueRay player. Use out wonderful lower quality service, use the Apple way, it's revolutionary because you can 'talk' to your television!!! Pay Apple for ALL your television needs, if we don't have the programme or film then it's because YOU don't NEED to watch it!
3D? What 3D? you don't need that, it'll hurt your eye's.....

Hmm, the reality distortion field would need to be on maximum overdrive to sell that one......

Just going back to the Apple TV, IF they did launch a TV, no doubt at the high end market price bracket, is it going to have glasses free HD 3D from any angle? Or even 3D with glasses? If not then it will already be old technology no matter what interface it has.

Lack of 3D would be a good point. What a crappy gimmick, can't wait for this crap to die so that movies aren't just "Hey look, stuff flying at your face in 3D!" like they have been for the last 2 years.

Like I said though, it's in Pixar's interest to have 3D television in the home. But would an Apple TV reflect that? If it lacked it then it would be behind the times even more.

... and throw away your Xbox/ Playstation. You'd much rather play Angry Birds than Ace Combat/ Modern Warfare/ Gran Tourismo/ Forza.

3D isn't gonna die. Trust me.

wt* What a rip-off of Apple TV..

Every time when Apple brings something news... than other companies MUST follow -.-.-.-.

So? What's your point? I'm glad other companies compete, that's great for the consumer.

Everyone I keep talking to doesn't quite like 3D tvs though. I know I didn't bother with my last TV purchase, as I find it a gimmick and frankly after 5 minutes of watching one in store was already tired of it (and it didn't help that you have to concentrate to really keep focus on those things).

3D film isn't gonna die though. 3D TV's are good for huge TV's.

While i agree, i think that has more to do with novelty issues. Once movie makers get a hang of how to use the new technology to actually add to the story, rather than just do the "look at our cool effects" 3d might actually get useful.

The ideal solution is to integrate the program guide and make it editable! That's what the networks DON'T want you to do.

Remember ReplayTV (Roku's founders first product)? I loved it. Besides the one-button advertising skip functionality, it actually had an editable program guide! I only had 20 networks on it versus the 700 crap channels the cable companies give you. It was awesome and that's what we need. Pure simplification.

The Buddy TV Guide app for Google TV does exactly this.

Just got a email from Google for my Google TV Logitech Revue.

Hello,

Thank you for having purchased a Google TV product with the initial version of our software.

We're excited to send you this advance notice about a number of software improvements that will soon be coming to your device through an automatic update. The update is rolling out over the next few weeks.

When you see a dialogue box on your TV saying "update available," feel free to click " update now," otherwise you can postpone the update by a few hours by clicking "not now" (handy if you're in the middle of watching a movie). Once the update has downloaded, just follow the on-screen instructions.

The on-screen instructions include a quick guide to what's new, but here's an overview of the exciting new features we're bringing you:

Keep it simple

The interface is now much simpler. The new customizable home screen gets you to your favorite content quickly. And within "all apps" you can see all of your shortcuts, similar to your Android phone or tablet.

Make it easy to find something worth watching

We've improved search across the board for content from live TV, Netflix, YouTube, HBO GO, and more. But what if you don't know what to search for? There's now an app called "TV & Movies" that let's you easily browse through 80,000 movies and TV episodes across cable or satellite, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and many other sites. If you've opted in to recommendations, we can better predict what you want to watch next.

Make YouTube better on TV

We're launching a new YouTube experience specifically built for Google TV. It is now fast and easy to get to your favorite HD-quality YouTube entertainment. And we've integrated YouTube more closely with Google TV search, so that you can turn virtually any topic - mountain biking, cooking, etc - into a channel.

Bring more apps to TV

We are opening up the TV to the creativity of content creators large and small through Android Market. Android developers can now bring existing mobile apps or entirely new ones to TV. Initially, the number of apps won't be large - for example, apps requiring a touch screen, GPS, or telephony won't show up - but 50 developers have seeded the Market with some cool and useful apps for the TV. We're excited to see the number of apps grow.

...

Happy TV watching!

The Google TV Team

Now waiting for my update...

Really ? Plural ?

"Watch out! Deadly item flying right at you!" seems to be the only effect they've used till now...

Do they look the same? That's the question. Answer it please. Do they look the same?

That's like saying a Big mac is the same as a whopper because both have buns, and meat and are served with fries.

The Big Mac was clearly patented and everyone knows Burger King was a poor man's McDonald's.

Don't give the unoriginal any sort of credit.
