I have a gmail account someone wanna invite?

***EDIT*** it's only available in the US? that's lame

I absolutely love GV! It's excellent when using Craigslist. Gives me a barrier for txting and calling as I don't have to give out my real number. I also use my GV number for applications online and anywhere else. That way I can block any uncecessary/spam calls. Love it.

Any place I do not want my real number given, I use my GV number. I have had no issues with it at all and been using it since it was Grand Central years ago.

I'ts kind of cool because I have a GV number from an area code that is no longer available. Hasn't been for years.

Not to step on the OP's toes - but to spread the love - I have 3 invites if anyone wants one. PM me - first come first served.

One of the few reasons I jailbreak my phone. It's great for a secondary number and is my daytime number for free calls (A-list).:D

Okay so I broke down and activated my Google Voice invite. I will admit that texting from my computer to someone's phone is pretty cool. But how to do I get their replies to go to my Textfree app, instead of my cell phone number? I don't want to use up my texting because of replies.

I tried changing the settings in GV to use my Textfree phone number, but that number is not a voice number so I couldn't put in the code to confirm it with them. I could try using my Textfree address but GV only lets me have one email address.

For those of you wondering, try routing GV texts to your email. You can reply to the email from your phone. It shows up on the recipient's phone as a text from your GV number. This saves you $20. It's a great service. I have two accounts that I use, a work one and a "personal" one. The personal one is what I give to girls. When they get annoying, you simply "block" them, and they won't be able to get ahold of you. The GV block message says "The number you are calling has been disconnected..." :D

The only thing I really use Google Voice for is voicemail. I have my voicemail forwarded to Google so I can laugh at the awful transcriptions.

Does anyone know of a way to get a GV text to go to a Textfree phone number? The Textfree number is not a voice number and is used only for texting.

UPDATE:I figured out the only way to do this is to have GV send texting to my Textfree address. It can't use the Textfree phone number, because it is not voice and you can't send back the confirmation this way.

No need for invites anymore.. its open to everyone now.

From Google Voice:

"We're open -- no invitation required! Create an account or just sign in with your existing Google Account."

I use GV for free texting and for filtering various people and different voicemail greetings. I can screen unknown callers before I pickup the phone at a prompt that asks them for their name. I can then decide whether I want to pickup or not. It's pretty powerful but the voice quality is lacking sometimes.

Oh and I got a easy to remember number that has my name spelled out to boot.
