I don't think there is an iPad version. It's just the iPhone version that will now run on the iPad.

i don't think there is an iPad version but however the iphone one now works on the iPad. So it is in fact in the store right now

I'm trying to find this in the App store on my Ipad, but I'm not seeing it just yet, maybe it'll update later today. I went to a link provided on their post, and it does take me to a google voice app, but it's not a native iPad app, It only shows up in a iPhone resolution, I hope this isn't their idea of "Supporting" the iPad. We'll see I guess.

I don't have an iPad, so I really can't confirm, but wouldn't going to their desktop site bring you all those features and more? I've accessed it on my iPhone (to access some settings not found in the mobile site or in the app) and had no problem with it. Kinda tricky, considering the iPhone's screen size but I managed nonetheless. I imagine on the iPad it's only easier,no?

The iPad works just fine with the regular Google Voice web site. Of course you don't get push notifications with it using the web site.

WTF ... no VoIP? I still don't see the value or any justification for not including that piece of functionality in the iTouch or iPad.

just to let you know

The iPod Touch is so gimped without a constant data connection. Seriously, about 75% of my Apps require a constant data connection.

The 4.2 version of ios brought with it the ability for the ipod touch to maintain a constant wifi data connection while in standby mode. You can check your device of head over to apple.com ipod touch feature section to verify for yourself

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Can any Google Voice app user help me?
This new version should be compatible with my ABContacts app (a contact manager). But I can't check because here in Italy the google app doesn't work.
The test is simple: after upgrading the
GV app, open safari and where you usually write "http://sitename", write "googlevoice://phonenumber". The GV app should open and call the number.
Anyone can do the test and report the result?
Thank you !!

I meant constant data connection as in through WiFi. Aside from listening to preloaded music, video, or games... there are not a ton of Apps out there I use that don't require WiFi. I couldn't imagine trying to use the iPod Touch like a cell phone outside the home. I live in Chicago and free WiFi hot spots are not as common as you'd think.

Launches the app and calls the number.

Get a mobile HotSpot. They are becoming more affordable nowadays.

@Pared
Thank you !!

Please let me know if you want a promo code for a couple of my apps. I'll be happy to thank you for your help.

Yep, I sometimes feel like slapping people who are all "just use Wifi it's everywhere!"

No, it's not. Even in downtown Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh, it's hard to find *reliable* open wifi. Also I find that when you DO find an open hotspot, it is usually too slow or unreliable to use.

New York City (Manhattan in particular) is the only place I've found where you can find Wifi nearly everywhere (just go to a Starbucks, there's practically one on every corner in midtown), and even then it doesn't always work well.

I use Boxcar for GV push notifications.. have Boxcar configured to redirect to GV website for GV messages.. works fine.

No need for this app on iPad - I can't stand using iPhone-sized apps on iPad :)

An Alternative Option

Not to sound too extreme but I wouldn't mind being "all wifi". I'm at home or in the office 95% of my time... if I'm on the road, I shouldn't be on the phone anyway, and when I'm on a 15min walk to get a coffee I don't want to talk, text, or check my email.

The technology and infrastructure is already in place. However, as this would bankrupt every cell-phone network in the world, I can't imagine anyone giving this the nod just yet. it would also kill the iPhone as everyone would grab an iPod touch.

Really how? Its not like there are no other VOIP services already in place, google would just be one more. Its inevitable that its going this way.

Two users say it doesn't call but just open the app.
Anyone else can try ? Thank you

Still waiting for them to just go all the way and do VoIP with Google Voice. That should turn the industry on it's ear. :D

Call straight from your iPad or iPod touch (if you're on WiFi) and talk. They're SO close to being able to do this. They give you a phone-number already with Google Voice. People can call it and you can access it all from your iPad or computer or whatever. The only missing piece is the ability to call out using that number with no actual phone at all.

So close. I'm sure they're working on it now as the infrastructure would probably have to be huge because everyone would want to try it. It may also turn into a giant headache for them.

I'm sure this would make them very popular with their partners (ie, Apple, Comcast, Verizon, CIA, etc)... those organizations even might send nice gifts to Google like termination of contracts and NSA security letters.

Seriously, the fact that you *can* do something doesn't mean it's conducive to long-term health.

I think MacRumors has some bad info here, they don't even show screen shots???:confused:

Google Voice vs. Skype?

Sorry for my ignorance, but how do people like Google voice compared to Skype? I've been using Skype quite a while and make international calls (mostly to Japan) often. Is Google voice better than Skype?
