Any chance that someone has an extra invite that they could send my way for Google Voice?

mikeds@gmail.com

Only Google sends invites, users don't have any.

I have the GV Mobile app and a Google Voice account. Now that Google has removed the app from the store, will the app on my 3GS be removed at some point? What happens to the app in the next iPhone rev?

BTW, love it.

You can make local calls with Google Voice. It just doesn't save you any money because you are only being charged for airtime anyway. (For most cell phone users.)

It also let's you give out one number that you can route to various phones. So you can route calls to your work number during the day to save cell phone minutes....
How do you call using your Google number so it shows up on their caller ID?

Try this to add Google Voice speed dial Icons for your most used numbers:

Adding Google Voice Visual Speed Dial to the iPhone

Eric found a way to add Google Voice Visual Speed Dial to his iPhone:

1. Add the GV gadget to your iGoogle page.

2. Click on contacts. Find the unique URL for the contact you want to create a speed dial icon for. Let's use "mom." URL will be something like https://www.google.com/voice/m/contact/62875768456345.

3. Find a picture of mom. Resize it to 57 x 57, and save as PNG.

4. Go to iPhone Webclip Icons. Upload the image of your mom. Name it "mom" and paste the URL from your GV Contacts. Put in your email address, and you probably DONT want to make it public.

5. Create shortcut.

Voila -- you'll be emailed a link that includes your mom's picture as a fav icon. Add it to your home screen. Now whenever you want to call home, just click on her picture. It'll launch her GV contact info, and then you can select which number to call.

This is great...and it sucks all at the same time.

I applied for a google voice invite weeks ago...and just got it yesterday, conveniently right after it's been pulled.

Seriously, how ironic.

I'm pretty sure that users could send other users their invites (if they wanted to)!

I got an invite on one Gmail account (which I hardly use). When I clicked on the URL, I actually changed to my normal Gmail account and set up Google Voice there. It worked with no issues.

You don't need an app to use google voice. It works with any cell phone.

Sure you can have your google number forwarded to your phone...but how do you make outgoing calls with googlevoice...without the app?
I'm at a loss...and still new to the whole googlevoice-ness.

You use the mobile google voice link that was posted here, or you can use the google voice website.

Note that, with or without the app, the way google voice works for outgoing calls is to CALL YOU (e.g., your iPhone), and then call your desired number.

No it wouldn't, you'd just be using your cell phone minutes as usual. However, if you were calling outside of the US you'd be using minutes and getting charged for the call by the minute from Google.

If you don't have the app, and you don't want to use cell minutes, you can log on to the google voice website either from your computer or from your cell browser and you can put it in the number you want to call and your google voice number will call you and then call out to your requested number.
