I am going to say that when it does come out, it is going to be very impressive because it is probably going to incorporate everything that is listed here: http://www.google.com/options/index.html, integrated with GMAIL, and of course, their search bar. I say it will be pretty nice...Only if it comes in an OS X version, though. But it would make a nice alternative for PC users.

So, let's say they bring on this browser with all of these features. If they have an OS X version, it's an awesome product. If they don't have an OS X version, it sucks. I don't get it.

Anyway, I just want a browser that works with the sites I need most, and Safari doesn't cut it. I found Mozilla does the job, so I couldn't care less about Google's new browser.

A browser is just a browser. With so many decent browsers out, I don't see how another browser would be better than FireFox, for example. The only reason to make a Google browser or OS is to make sure you're completely absorbed into the Google world.....Google browser, Gmail, Google browser, plus those Google options/helpful sites. They want your entire web experience to go through them, and I think its smart on their part, but unless their browser can walk both my dogs and do my assignments, I don't see the allure of a browser better than Firefox, unless Firefox development transforms it into utter trash. ;)
Oh, I'm sure they'll pull a microsoft and make it so that their search engine doesn't work with any browser but theirs.

I hope you are joking. Google just doesn't seem the type that would do that. Plus they generate a lot of revenue though the selling of keywords. What company will buy keywords when only certain browsers can use see it?

Exactly, I don't see Google pulling a stunt like that. World takeover? Maybe...

I'm sure Microsoft seemed harmless enough when it was helping Commodore and company with various products, too. :)

I don't think google is harmless. They are a business. And all good businesses are out to make money. Why would they do something that would lose them money?

Actually all businesses are out to make money, otherwise there's no real benefit of the business.

You don't think Google is harmless, so you think they are harmful? I guess I'm just confused.

What I am saying is they could release a browser and people start to use it. Then they could eventually over time tweak it to the point where people must use it if they want the benefits of Google search and other products they may offer.

I relate this to Microsoft, because that is exactly the way Microsoft started. They brought out Windows and look where companies are today. Since most people use Windows and other MS products that only run on Windows, they can tweak things in their favor.

I'm not saying they would do this immediately, as this would be harmful to their bottom line. However, over time, it is possible they would do this. I have no idea if they would or not, but as you stated, all businesses are in operation to make money, so if that made them more money over time, they may just head that direction.

I think Google is out for themselves. So is Apple, and so is every other successful business. You may say, "Apple takes care of me." Well, they do so you continue to buy from them. Google is the same way. They'll look after you as long as it makes them money.

I see now.. :) I just couldn't get it through my head the first time.

Google, just like Apple, started out with two guys with a vision. Yeah, that turns into dollar signs, but so does everything. I don't see Google as the bad guy here at all, and unless they make some big mistake, I don't see them becoming one.

I don't know if you were refering to my post, but if so that isn't what I was going for. As a company Google is trying to make money. I just don't see them making their search engine only work with their browser. I think this would cost them some profits.

Look & feel

After having the Firefox install hang up repeatedly, I'd love to see a Google browser. That said, it would have to have a better look & feel than gmail for me to use it regularly. Gmail may have massive storage, but the interface is like a music video from the 80s. Aesthetically, it's a disaster.

Okay guys...This is a follow up post to my thread..

Today I was at the Digital Life expo and Google had a pretty amazing setup there...Well I got a chance to talk to the product manager of Google Desktop and he CONFIRMED that Google IS currently making a web browser, as he is on the team. Then he also said that a Mac version is not currently planned right now but has been brought up a repeated amount of times. He told me that they have also been working on the browser longer than Google desktop, but are taking their time and really integrating everything into this browser. He also said this, when prompted the question of Google Desktop for Mac "No, the Mac already does it perfectly and with Tiger will do it even better, so there is, unless I have a change of heart, no chance that there will be a Google Desktop for the Mac."

Take it all for what you will, but it's straight from the horse's mouth.
