Why can't I have native Firefox with uBlock origin on my iPhone?
You know that if Google can have their own browser for iOS, they will totally own the browser market! iOS has been the only factor of holding back against Chrome going 80%+. For those of us that remember what Microsoft did when they owned the browser market, this is a scary thing and I don't trust any company to own the whole market.Clearly a sign of the coming changes probably with iOS 17.
My opinion is that this requirement by Apple was not worth it from the start, competition benefits us customers.
I would like to remind you '90 with domination of the IE... at the beginning it was indeed somewhat better than the rest, but then thanks to embedding in windows it got market dominance and everyone basically i my tested in IE which ten t became to stagnante... it was BAD.That falls on developers. If a product is dominating maybe there’s a reason. Same could be said about iPhones or literally anything else, don’t victim blame the consumer.

Chrome is slowly, but constantly losing market share to Microsoft's Edge, and to lesser extent Brave. It's not the only chromium browser. You know that if Google can have their own browser for iOS, they will totally own the browser market! iOS has been the only factor of holding back against Chrome going 80%+. Have you tried Android? There's no extensions available on Chrome and most others have a limited selection. I actually think Apple's Safari extensions are the best of the lot. Finally we could also get rid of Safari’s weird system of extensions.
Exactly what I was thinking. What exactly is the problem with Safari on iOS that might magically be fixed by using something else?Everyone here is all "Yeah! It's about time! We need other options besides Safari/Webkit."
Does anyone actually care? Never once have I thought to myself: "Gee, I wish I could use a Chromium browser on here." Safari works just fine for everything I've ever needed it to and I suspect that's true for 99.9% of others as well.
But that's the whole point behind this idea which I welcome. Currently Apple dominates with its browser using its webkit. Even if we have a choice of webkit builds, my default browser on my Macs is still Safari. The issue becomes when Apple no longer supports the hardware and hence Safari and on web browsers that use Apple's webkit start breaking.Ironically your wish for more competition will likely result in a lot less. Chromium based browsers will utterly dominate. And having one company able to dictate web standards is not a good idea.
Doesn't that have something to do with Apple blocking the uBlock app?Why can't I have native Firefox with uBlock origin on my iPhone?
If people are willing to pay what Apple is asking then they are not overpriced. And from how successful Apple is I would say plenty of people are buying.Isn't getting rid of Google the main reason for buying an overpriced iPhone?
Why does Apple even have this "webkit-only" restriction?
the grass is not always greener on the other side, google will slurp all that data they could not access they are not doing this for free, they also don't care about optimizing it.
