You are mixing two things here:

1) Is Apple far, far behind the main actors in the AI race? Absolutely, many years behind.

Yet again you are either being deliberately ignorant or actually ignorant that Apple has never bothered to be a superscaler or language model competitor.

Apple contribute to the AI space by open sourcing ideas and by partnering with providers. No different from when search engines became massive. The news media kept asking “When is Apple going to compete with their own search engine??”

The superscalers are Microsoft, Amazon, Google, etc. Apple DOES NOT and will never want to compete in the superscaler space. That’s one of many reasons they gave up on selling servers.

OpenAI has also given up dreaming of owning datacenters. They are buying compute in bulk from Amazon and Microsoft.

This is all very expensive stuff that is very hard to turn a profit from and Apple shareholders would always vote Apple’s board down on that kind of loss making spending. It’s much cheaper to just give users a choice of providers and ensure privacy.
