Are people’s faces live-censored at the time of recording or at least at some point in the capture chain, à la Google Street View? Same question for Meta glasses.
You do realise that everyone already has a camera in their pocket or hands & for years you have been able to buy miniature cameras?

What do you want to ban, peoples eyes next?

I'm really hoping the market for camera glasses fizzles out or there is major public backlash. Because if I start seeing these around, I may start shopping for masks 🎭. That might be kind of cool actually.
Who knew V for Vendetta and Tokyo Ghoul would be so prophetic.

Google is developing two pairs of smart glasses with artificial intelligence that will launch in 2026, the company said today. The first set of glasses have AI integration and are designed for screen-free assistance with built-in speakers, microphones, and cameras for speaking to Google Gemini.

Users will be able to take photos using the camera, and then ask Gemini questions about their surroundings for real-time help.

The second set of glasses has the same AI capabilities along with an in-lens display that is able to display helpful information like turn-by-turn directions or live translation captions. Both sets of glasses will connect to a smartphone, with processing done on that device. The glasses will run Android XR, Google's platform for wearables.

Google is partnering with Samsung to develop the glasses, plus it is working with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, two companies that design eyeglasses. Google says that its glasses options will be stylish, lightweight, and comfortable enough to wear all day.

The Google smart glasses will compete with the Meta Ray-Bans and any upcoming products from Apple. Meta already has Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses with AI and Ray-Bans with an in-lens display. Rumors suggest that Apple is working to unveil its first set of AI smart glasses as soon as 2026.

Meh. Just posting so that I can eventually reply to articles that are hidden behind political restrictions, because some people are apparently too fragile.

Project Aura was the most impressive thing they showed today IMO. It brings a Vision OS like experience to a form that is more like traditional glasses. The external puck not only off boards the battery and processor but also allows USB-C video input to create a virtual display for any device.

That’s definitely the direction I’d like to see for the next Vision product.
Why are the people in the demo videos looking like dorks? From a personal security and safety standpoint being distracted is ripe for crime, unfortunately.

Funny how we come full circle. They got blasted for Glass a decade ago because of privacy concerns with the camera, plus they weren’t very “stylish”. Now there are several camera equipped models on the market…

Apple’s version can’t come soon enough. I truly believe this type of product is a “see it to believe it” experience. If you’ve ever tried the Apple Vision Pro demo at an Apple Store, you already know this is the next frontier. Apple will be last to market per usual, but at least they’ve got the (albeit small) head start of an ecosystem that already has some third party apps ready for launch with visionOS.

Apple needs to make people recording with those things BLATANTLY CLEAR that recording is in progress. Something more obvious than what Meta has implemented with their stuff. Privacy is in tatters as it is. Please help us out?

..and any and all smart glasses that contain a camera.

No thank you. Keep them off my face, and out of my face.

I did the demo a couple times, and borrowed a buddy’s AVP. I do not think it’s the ‘next frontier’; I think it’s a half-baked attempt by Apple at being relevant in area that no one really wants except loners and weirdos.

I see a lot of use cases for the technology, mostly business like eg remote training, troubleshooting etc.
For consumer use, not so much though, esp "hidden" cameras, creepy ...

I’m good with people that want to walk alone through a place I’ve never been and likely won’t get a chance to go to. But, I’d much rather they’d bring a big ol’ rig that can capture immersive quality content. :)

It will be interesting seeing how well these work (and look) in the real world. I'm very interested in this sort of next step in tech but I'll likely wait a few more years for companies to further perfect them. I imagine eventually being able to have it help identify all sorts of things I see including the names of my neighbors I may encounter when out walking my dog. To be truly useful I'll need them in transition lenses so I can wear them inside and out.

I like this idea for AI glasses.

I don’t see the rush for Apple to do anything at this stage. Their iPhone engine has a lot of steam left and it isn’t dying anytime soon. They will sell like hotcakes with or without glasses. I honestly think let Tim be Tim and focus on things he knows Apple will make a boat-load of money on and let the next CEO do all the new product launches. Tim is not bothered to focus on glasses. iPhone is King. That’s ALL that matters for now.

Maybe a big spotlight LED in the middle between the lenses, that you can see from across the street

Get over it. People in public have always been at risk of being filmed by weirdos for whatever their weird reasons might be. Spy cameras have existed for decades. Glasses are just further evolution of camera technology.

You do realise that everyone already has a camera in their pocket or hands & for years you have been able to buy miniature cameras?

Talk about anxiety, omg,..everyone has a camera on them!

Ridiculous comments.

Yes people have a camera on them with their smartphones but it’s pretty easy to tell if someone’s recording you. Especially if they’re trying to frame the shot to get what they want.

Spy cameras have terrible quality and if it’s “concealed” you’ll never know if you’re actually recording something worthwhile.

With glasses you can simply look at what you want to record and that’s it. The person won’t know if you’re simply looking in their direction or actually recording them (those security features to tell others you’re recording will get bypassed by some clever $1 trick).

People have the right to be upset at others possibly recording them without their consent.
