"Threat to Apple Watch" - laughable. It's not even a threat to Galaxy Watches. Pixel phones themselves are no threat to any other Android phone much less Apple. All the Pixels sold since 2016 wouldn't even be a tenth of what Samsung sold in 2021.
Agree. The Pixel Purpose is a kinda reference standard for OEMs to come up with something similar. Because they would just do the cheapest they could get away with otherwise.

that's rediculous. heart rate can vary all day. patterns are what matter.
Resting heart rate is already a measured pattern. I don’t think that 86 bpm is that bad depending on your age and fitness but it isn’t an instantaneous measurement.

rounds looks nice but the bezels are terrible and apples shape just gives so much more usable space

I have no problem with the rectangular design of Apple Watches. It's more practical for a smartwatch.

For round watches, I must give it to Samsung. The Pixel Watch reminds me of a snow globe.

Traditional watches are round for a reason. There are square/rectangular watches as well, but it is form over function in those cases. The hands still move in a circle. On a digital watch, square makes the most sense. Having a circular digital watch is the same form over function issue. But the form isn‘t great in this case. 😒

As for me, I’m done with Apple watches. I’m going back to traditional watches. And yes, the only thing I want is the time and date. And no, I don’t want to pull out my phone every time I want to check the time.
Why do you need to pull out your phone to check the time? I just glance at my Watch. A traditional watch does nothing for me. Glad that you like them.

Google actually had a head start on wearables with WearOS, but they literally abandoned it mid way in the midst of Apple improving Apple Watch on every releases. Now Apple is on the 8th release, and all Google could do is simply put Fitbit inside theirs and called it a day... 😅 Not gonna lie, but I can see this being ignored and abandoned again in 3 years or so.

We got our demo units in our store the other day and I was able to mess with them. I was highly disappointed with the watch. It felt very cheap feeling and just felt weird on the wrist, the UI felt very laggy and cluttered. For the price point, you can find another brand of watch for the same price if not better like the Ticwatch. I'm a user that uses both iPhones and Android so I have no bias, I own both the Apple Watch Ultra and a Galaxy Watch and get to play around with a bunch of other watches at my job and I can honestly say to do your due diligence before you purchase the Pixel Watch.,

All of the reviews pretty much say otherwise on feeling cheap and the UI being "laggy".

If that 86 bpm in the last photo is that person's resting heart rate, they'd better be checking in with their doctor ;)
Fact: Olympic Champion Speedskater Bonnie Blair's resting heart rate at the height of her Olympic performances was over 117 BPM. Quite a few elite athletes have what most would consider to be high resting rates.

Won't be buying one myself as quite honestly I can't find a reason to wear a smartwatch as it's going to be ruined by the type of work I do.
And yes, I don't like the Bezels, and it's too expensive for what it is.
All the said, I'm still glad it exists. I'm glad to see more options, and I hope this can be a Mark 1 model, as the Apple watch was pretty rubbish for their Mark 1 model, and over the next 5 to 10 years? we can see it evolve.
Being Round is of course open for debate. The Apple watch now just looks to bland on the wrist, but I accept that's a personal thing.
I'd like to see a company actually create a round OS to match the form factor, actually using the shape as a positive as opposed to trying to force a square UI into a round shape.

Quick example,: you could have a message curve around the screen and read loads and loads of text, using the crown wheel to smoothly scroll the text around the circle.

I love the look of this, and have always wished Apple would make a round watch.

On the other hand, I don't particularly trust Google with my data, and I really wouldn't trust Google to not abandon this after a few years.
You can't imagine how I agree with you:

I’m not just saying this cause I’m an Apple fanboy, but smart watches are so much better square in my opinion. More room for information.
Technically true. But I love the look of HUGE circular watches though. The HUGE bezel on the Pixel is yikes because its a tiny watch already.

I don’t understand the reasoning behind producing a round smartwatch. Watches were made round when they only could tell time. If you like the round look, buy an analog watch. Even my old Casio calculator and phone dialing watches were rectangular.

Garmin is wayyy too glitchy and buggy for me.
I have a Fenix 7 as well as a Apple Watch Ultra, my experience differs from you, I have never heard of any one that owns one, describe Garmin watches as "glitchy." As for "buggy" I never once have had to restart my Garmin or found it buggy, can you describe what you are seeing? I would say that Garmin in no way compares to Apple when used as a smart watch, it does the basics such as messages and texts but I never used it for that. Apple cannot compare to the Garmin as a sports/fitness watch and nor can the software, try looking at your heart rate, footfall in real time or attaching it to a concept 2 PM5 or just a basic of looking at results of your workout on a web browser (you can't).

Yes. Because if you want to upgrade to the next gen Google watch, you will not be able to! :)
But why would you want to upgrade to something that didn't exist? Surely when upgrading, people do so because there's something better on the market - apart from those who just buy the newest from the same brand regardless.

I've never had issues with Garmins either, and I started with the Forerunner 101 (remember that beast?). But Garmin forums do have users complaining of issues, so I guess the experience of some doesn't mirror ours. That's tech for you!
