I think we get the same service from Apple in our country here as google services over there. I’m curious why your wife hates all things Apple though.
She has likely been influenced by tech heads at her jobs or friends. I was one of these guys for years. I talked hundreds of people out of buying Macs before I actually tried one out at a friend’s house and a few months later bought my first Mac. I regret my previous actions because I feel true stress when I’m forced to use Windows.

Apple needs a cheap iPhone

So what would the iPhone 6s be? That’s an entry-level iPhone right now in their lineup, and offered in two sizes. And there are plenty of discounts/promotions on that device, where it’s extremely affordable.

SE with an X design and maybe a A10 chip would be a great entry level device.

I doubt we will see a 4 inch display for an iPhone anymore. If the SE is ever revived, I imagine will be significantly larger, but perhaps still sacrifice some of the latest features of the more expensive iPhones to retain a cheaper price point.

You do realize Apple dominates in full on smartphones in markets were there is a choice. People who know better do not prefer Android.
I’m not talking about privacy just about general usage and user friendliness. I’m still an iPhone user but I know a lot of people over here who prefer the usability of Android over the usability of iOS.

Maybe iOS is saver than Android, I don’t know. It’s invisible to me anyway. And using Facebook, google maps and gmail and Instagram on iOS doesn’t that break your privacy the same way on iOS as it does on android?

Apple keeps telling that their platform keeps things private but as they use cloud services from google and also have cloud offerings in China where the government can keep an eye on it (Russia is about to follow), can you guarantee that all my data on Apple is safe?

Maybe when you live in the USA iOS does offer benefits. Those benefits you have aren’t there over here. Almost no one uses iMessage because the majority is working on android and using WhatsApp. Siri and Apple maps are a joke compared to android offerings. Cloud services same.

And believe me if I say that there are a lot of people that don’t like using iOS and prefer Android.

Apple needs a modern phone with modern specs to be and stay competitive. For example: the iPhone 8 is more expensive over here than a Samsung Galaxy S9 with more Ram and better screen, camera etc.
Maybe you’re like me not a Samsung fan, but it’s a hard sell to chose the iPhone 8 above an Galaxy S9.

You couldn’t be more wrong. Pros do things like customise their phone icons and set interactive screensavers.

Only suckers with iToys would buy a Fisher-Price iPoop to help with things like graphics design, animation, or construction. Those dumb iSheep.

No, these are power users aka. nerds. Pros want the tools they need the most as accessible as they possibly can be. Sure you can be both at the same time but they are not a majority. Also I highly doubt there are lot's of Android manufacturers trying to develop a pro experience.

Just as the cost of decent quality laptops have dropped over the decades, we will see more decent quality smartphones for a lower price. Apple pioneered the modern day smartphone (I love my iPhone), but if Apple is not careful, other companies will undercut them. Apple needs to release a decent quality smartphone for $249.

Unfortunately, having to use Android is an unavoidable cost. Not a hater, just how it is. #materialdesignsucks

The iPhone 7 is now Apple’s entry level handset.

The 6S is still offered through major carriers alike new, even though not offered direct from Apple, other than a refurbished device, you can still purchase one new in the box as of today. It Still is the cheapest handset that’s still available with specs’ highly similar to the 7.

If Google does what it did in the past offer a top tier phone for cheaper it will do bad. Smart phone prices have gotten out of line. Original iPhone was 400. Adjusting for inflation they should still be under $450. Top of the line used to 400. We have kept out of line with inflation.
Hopefully this will help bring them back in line.

Yes there is. Google still tracks your every move. I would never go back to Android until they at least pretend to care about privacy. They make no qualms about data collecting.

Apple may have a few bugs, but they are committed to keeping your data secure and private. This doesn’t mean they won’t make mistakes...they have, but I prefer a company where I am not the product.

Understand?

Your comment that majority prefer Android over iOS is baseless and untrue.

You have to be kidding with your last sentence about market share. Globally Android still leads iOS 3-1 when factoring all brands combined.

the current narrative from smartphone companies "struggling" to figure out a way how to manufacture a sub $700 phone is beyond

There were plenty of sub $700 phones just a couple years ago that made Apple & others untold Billion$ in profits, and if anything, they're cheaper to produce now than they were in the past.

All they are doing, including Apple, is struggling to figure out how to sell them and make massive profits...
Hence this story...

They say smartphone sales are dropping, well that’s because people see less and less and less value in upgrading! It’s just mad to think the solution to that is to offer not a whole lot more for double the price and expect people who don’t see value in your updates to them go out and buy them!
That goes for all of the manufactures..

Google should be able to charge much less than $749 for the hardware since they are making money off you every time you use it and feed them data.

Apple should be giving you and 12.6 million other customers a free iPhone Xr for the $9.5 billion they get to feed your search data to Google.

So if no one else is making any money, how are they all still in business then and trading? And don’t say the failed line of selling your data.

Even Nokia and blackberry didn’t close down right away. They hung around for years despite clearly making losses. Then you have companies like LG who prop up their mobile divisions with money from elsewhere.

Doesn’t mean they are doing well. Just that they simply haven’t decided to exit the market yet.

But so long as they continue to rely on a commoditised OS which isn’t theirs, this is likely as far as they go.

Yeah, Huawei really is doing bad. They have grown only 40% in a market where Apple saw plummet their sales.
