So what would the iPhone 6s be? That’s an entry-level iPhone right now in their lineup, and offered in two sizes. And there are plenty of discounts/promotions on that device, where it’s extremely affordable.

I doubt we will see a 4 inch display for an iPhone anymore. If the SE is ever revived, I imagine will be significantly larger, but perhaps still sacrifice some of the latest features of the more expensive iPhones to retain a cheaper price point.
I agree with you - but people recognize it as old. and it is. maybe i should rephrase what I said - Apple needs a cheap new iPhone. Something that looks new to the consumer walking in the door, and is inexpensive.

This article is weird.

You say... “Apple suffered poorer iPhone sales than expected during the holiday quarter, and one major factor was the high cost of iPhones around the world.”

And then say how a low cost android phone priced the same as XR will win sales.

yeah, that confused me, cause I sure as heck don't consider $750 "LOW COST" for ANY phone. if Apple's "cheap" phone at $750 is panned for it's price, than Google releaseing a "cheap" device at $750 will meet the same fate

Unless, the MR article isn't wording it well, and Google's device will cost significantly less.

Though if Apple, Google, Samsung all want to push the ceiling, i'm sure there are enough companies willing to steal their sales with more reasonable price points. There's a reason why Samsung's sales are tanking in Asian markets. They can't compete with lower priced alternatives with 95% of the features and performance.

True but Samsung is also price sensitive in some markets where they reduce prices few months after lunch, try to reduce even more to compete with other products.

Couple of months back I have bought Note 9 512 GB for $959.. Which is significantly lower than launch price.

Won’t be that hard for Google to bring a cheaper but more capable device to market than iPhone XR.

With that weak processor they won't compete in speed though... The XR beats all Android phones on the market in pure CPU and GPU power (and the battery life is great as well).

You won’t notice unless you play games. All phones new phones today are fast. I’ve rather have a phone with good screen, RAM and camera than a one which is 10 milliseconds faster in everyday use.

Oh yeah, they're truly terrible. I live in a country where Google doesn't even sell their phones officially. When I had issues with the google Assistant on my imported Pixel 3XL, Google's customer service was extremely persistent in fixing the issue. They called me back twice, ran me through every possible scenario they could think of and eventually got me a new phone free of charge. Last time I had an issue with Apple hardware (and trust me, I had plenty of that), they attempted a repair (allegedly), I got the product back unfixed. I took it back to the Apple Store where they tried again - after I hadn't heard from them for over a month, I ended up writing to Tim Cook personally, upon which customer services eventually agreed to get me a new device. The latter part was great, the former was a total nightmare. So don't tell me Apple has better customer service than Google.

My experience is the opposite of yours. Every time I've had a problem with Apple hardware, I've had it replaced free of charge. Even out of warranty. I've had my share of Apple hardware problems, I'm not claiming they are perfect. But yeah, once when I had persistent wireless problems they offered to send a team of engineers TO MY HOUSE to figure out what was going on. My Macbook Pro was 3 years old and out of warranty, they replaced it with the top of the line newest model with 1TB SSD (replaced model was pre-SSD/Retina).

My wife had the first Pixel XL, I know it was technically made by Huawei but it was bought through the Google store and Google was happy to put their name on it. When it came to dealing with the persistent GPS issues, they literally tried to say "oh we don't have anything to do with that phone. They replaced once with a phone that had the same issue. The second time, wanted $200 to replace it with refurbished, which they then said maybe they could waive the fee. But as soon as I asked to escalate to avoid getting a refurbished phone with the same problem, they instantly dropped the offer to waive the fee. They maintained that we could take it or leave it. This whole thing took around 8 long phone calls. So we made the decision to take the replacement just to sell and get the iPhone 8+. The hilarious thing was, after being rude enough that my wife cancelled her Google Fi phone service and vowed to never deal with them again, they sent a new Pixel 2XL after all.

sure, if you have an Apple Store nearby, that will happen. Apple charges 99$ for shipping here in Europe if you don't have that luxury.
