At its Google I/O developer conference last week, Google debuted a revamped Google News app focusing on balanced news delivery with personalized news suggestions, and as of today, the new Google News app is available for download on the iPhone and iPad.

According to Google, the News app is designed to use "the best of artificial intelligence to find "the best of human intelligence" by taking advantage of new AI techniques to organize a constant flow of new information into digestible storylines.

A "For You" section offers up personalized news suggestions based on user interests, which is designed to learn user preferences through continued usage. It displays five personalized stories with a mix of important headlines and local news.

A "Headlines" section offers the top headlines in the world, and an accompanying "Full Coverage" feature is meant to provide details on all of the different ways a particular story has been presented by a variety of news sources, aggregating the headlines from multiple publications.

Through the "Newsstand" tab, you can discover various news websites as well as more than 1,000 magazines, and you can subscribe to paid news sites like The Washington Post and The New York Times using a Google Play account if so desired.

Google News for iOS replaces the existing Google Play Newsstand app, which has been overhauled with a new name and a new design with the launch of Google News. Full release notes for the update are below:
Google Play Newsstand is now Google News!

What's new:
- Enjoy an entirely new, cleaner look, designed for a better reading experience
- Get up to speed with a smarter briefing that shows you the top five stories for you right now
- Explore all the coverage of a story in one place. See a timeline of events, FAQs, people and places involved, perspectives, analysis and more for every news story
- Subscribe to credible sources with a single click
Google News can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link]

I actually find the design user friendly. What scares me is I’m feeling that way about more and more google apps.

I feel the same. Their apps are making me more interested in trying a Pixel as my next phone.

I’m waiting to see myself what the Pixel 3 holds. Entire family is all Apple, but I’m becoming less entrenched as Google’s apps improve.

What a useless app!

No mark as read
No mark as read on scroll
No show all articles from all sources in one feed
No unread items count
Read articles do not disappear from the feed after refresh

Rated it 1 star on App Store
It isn't trying to be a RSS reader which seems to be what you are looking for.

I think we are reaching a tipping point where Google has finally caught up to Apple in terms of the overall user experience. I find myself using more Google apps on my iPhone these days. I recently switched to Gmail (from iCloud mail) and so far much prefer it. I love the way it automatically sorts promotional, social, and update emails in their own categories, leaving my inbox far less cluttered. I much prefer Google Maps to Apple Maps. Google Music is quite nice too. The only thing Apple Music/iTunes has going for it, in my opinion, is the desktop integration. Overall I'm quite impressed with Google these days.

Haha, always entertaining to see posters masquerading as Apple users and pretending like Apple is letting them down so they’re happy try Google apps and phones.

With that out of the way, Google should use their AI to clean up YouTube first.

I highly doubt people are playing the switcharoo game. But then again, this is the mentality the blinded Apple fans believe in... *Shrugs" Google has been beating Apple in just about every aspect for quite some time now, it's just that some people are so stuck in their ways to see it

Beat Apple News to support multiple countries besides US and a couple of others.
I want to hate Google but they keep being less US-centric than Apple :/

Masquerading Apple users?
Between me and my wife I have 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, 2 Apple TVs, 1 iMac27, 2 Apple Watches, Pay for iCloud Storage, AirPods.

What part of that am I masquerading? You want photos of said devices for evidence?

You are probably American, and in that case kudos for you. If you are not then you should understand when we complain that we feel forgotten by Apple. How long Apple pushed out News ? It's still less than a handful of countries.

Remember iTunes Radio which was also only US bound for years? Then Spotify appeared and suddenly Apple Music "kinda" worldwide appeared.

Competition is good.

Installing this. You know why? Because Apple News is still not available in my country..........
Same here. News is just other service that Apple doesn’t take it serious, that’s why they only have limited availability although it came out like 2 years ago.
[doublepost=1526459655][/doublepost]I found Apple News format much better looking, but I can’t stand how they keep showing “No stories” since I’m pretty sure they have.
Is that might be because it isn’t natively support in my country?

Funny I can get Google News on my iPhone but not the News app from Apple. Also No HomePod, no TV app and no Siri Support on Apple TV, no Apple Pay... Maybe I should rethink my relationship with Apple. The world isn’t the US, UK and Australia only...

More tailored news, feeding the biases of the masses. News should not be tailored other than by proximity. Otherwise the political divides will continue to appear wider than they are, and that’s a danger to democracy.

Is it me or are the ads rampant all throughout the google news app ?

I like Apple news because it really keeps the advertisements down to a minimum. Google news has them all over the place making for a distracting experience.

Many people forget that Google is an advertising company first and foremost - everything they produce from hardware to software exists to support this. Thus, ads aplenty...

Might have to give it a shot.
Keep telling Apple News that I don't want fake news from CNN or the Washington Post on my phone and yet every time I open the app there is another story from CNN or the Washington Post.
So, where do you prefer to get your fake news?

B I N G O

Someone gets it.

Everything Google does is a means to an end. And that end is to profit from the collection and distribution of data.
To believe otherwise is just naive and ignorant. If you enjoy their products and service and find value in them, then use them. Just understand what the endgame is for Google.
