depends. I have seen it happen but you normally have to pay 100$ and they will give you a refurbished one.

Accidental damage is not covered under manufacturer's warranty. Applecare did not cover it, but the new Applecare+ does. Usually, if you show up with a broken screen, Apple will give you a refurb for $199.
