So when is Apple going to shut this Chinese company down for IP, trademark, copyright and 'anything else Apple can come up with' infringement.
Gonna be tough, even for Apple. Knockoffs are big business. I've seen watches that are exact clones of $10k watches, can even swap parts between the real and fake and no issues. Famous high top sneakers that I seriously think fell off the truck as they were going from the factory to the port and someone is selling them. It's a whack a mole for any company trying to protect their IP; shut one down, and another is gonna pop up, the Chinese culture just does not care.

Whatever our socioeconomic status, most of us aspire to more. These kinds of knock-off devices are aspirational and there's a huge market for them because most people simply can't afford the real thing. The fashion industry has dealt with this sort of thing for decades. It's easy to mock devices like this when you're fortunate enough to be able to afford the real thing, which says a lot about the person doing the mocking and nothing about the device itself.

You make it sound as if this company, and all of the millions of other knock-off companies do what they do for altruistic reasons, to help people buy something they truly need at an affordable price, but that isn’t the case. They’re stealing the intellectual property of other companies to make a quick buck, plain and simple.

There are plenty of more affordable and functional phones, jeans, purses, watches, etc., that the world doesn’t need knock-offs, particularly when they’re sub-par. At that point, the knock-off companies are just taking advantage of people who want a status symbol.

If I wasn’t able to afford an iPhone, I would look for the next best functional device that I could afford, regardless of what it looks like. I certainly wouldn’t buy something with questionable functionality and likely no security just because it looks like an iPhone.

And your implication that people mocking this device (myself included) are somehow in the wrong for having done so, is just arrogant.

Wow, defensive much? I sure must have touched a nerve.

I don't think there's anything altruistic about the company's motives. I never said that. What I said is that many people can't afford nice things but they want them. So other companies step in and sell knock-offs. This has been happening forever. The fashion world is full of this. I know people who have travelled to Singapore and visited "the copy center" where tons of businesses just copy designer clothes, right down to sewing in fake labels.

Whether this device is sub-par or not isn't the point. That's your opinion. The person who can't afford better but wants status might be happy with the trade-offs. You might have plenty of legitimate reasons to avoid a knock-off like this but, again, it's not about you. Other people might not care. They might be perfectly happy with the compromises in order to achieve the status they desire. You really should get over yourself.

That has more RAM (and a larger battery) than the original!

Don't be fooled into thinking more RAM is better. Apple was always right to be conservative with RAM because it forces app developers to optimize their apps. Once you give developers endless resources, they won't optimize and the whole device will suffer as a result from bloated, inefficient apps.

That is true. It is however also true that lack of RAM, more than lack of CPU power, has become the determining factor for how long an iDevice can be used.

At the cost of getting bullied out of China? You know apple can’t win these types of stuff in China right?

No nerves touched here, just pointing out that your comments came across as arrogant. If you feel that people saying derogatory things about Apple or non-Apple products makes them less of a person, you're on the wrong forum.

And based on the limited info provided, it isn't just my opinion that it's sub-par. It has three camera lenses but only one is functional. Clearly the look implies it is something that it is not, and that was intentional from the manufacturer.

And feel free to look in the mirror when you tell someone to get over themselves.

Again, it's not about whether or not YOU think it's sub-par (I happen to agree). That's the arrogance. Your opinion is the only one that matters.

I don't think there's anything wrong with criticizing the manufacturer for producing a knock-off or discussing the ethical ramifications of knock-offs, but people buy these kinds of devices for all sorts of reasons. Many want to feel cool and they can't afford the real thing. A knock-off makes them happy. That's all I said in my original post. You're the one who got on your high horse. Products like this are aspirational. They've always existed. People who can't afford the real thing always buy the knock-offs. Get over yourself.

I understand the implications that "phone as a status symbol" may have for some, but ultimately I buy iPhones for how they function and really nothing about the design excites me other than the few features that impact its operation. Like you, if forced to compromise, I would rather have something that functioned closer to an iPhone/iOS than a phone that just looked like one. From a visual "showing off' perspective, with my phones always in a black leather case, I don't even think anyone would have known I upgraded models every year since the iPhone 11 Pro, nor do I care if they do.

I always wonder how China has such surveillance tech to enslave their citizens, then I remember the west pays Chinese pennies on the dollar to build our tech, which they then reverse-engineer.

Better off getting a mockup version that does nothing. Akihabara Tokyo, you can buy fake mockups unusable that look better than this for 15 US.

Apple often comes up with strange ideas like the "dynamic island" just to make iPhones distinguishable from other phones. Those design ideas often spoil the iPhone very much. That's why we should be glad about every copy. Those copies hurt the that strategy. So we might see less stuff like the dynamic island in future.
