Thanks for the update and the review.
I really like the concept of this phone as I like the idea of having one device instead of having to carry both a phone and a tablet.

Like you mentioned the 8GB memory is probably the main issue holding me back from ordering one of these.
If they can make the next version with bigger memory I would get one for sure.

Samsung might as well go ahead and create the 8.3 Galaxy Godzilla.

:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Haha they should name their biggest phone that! !! I love it

There is a 16GB model that should have some more leeway with storage but its still way below the space free on my 16GB Nexus 4 I'd bet (because of all the Samsung extras).

For those into synthetic benchmarks, I have these 3 Geekbench scores to share:

Nexus 4: 2304
Galaxy Mega: 1852
Nexus 7: 1396

Great review, ChazUK, thanks for posting it.

No problems! :D

I got around the storage limitation by rooting last night and using Foldermount to move app and game data to the external SD card.

Just under 10gb of apps and games installed and still over 2gb free on the internal memory.

Not bad! :D It's making my rethink my Nexus 7 purchase, thats for sure.

You can move apps to the SD card? Dang I didn't know that worked, I'd heard it had broken, lack of space was the reason. I sold my S4 and got the Oppo Find 5.

Folder mount is working perfectly for me. :D

14 gigabytes worth of applications installed on 4.7 gigabytes worth of space with 1.7 gigs free.

Really, really loving this thing more now.

Unlock, miracast, MHL

I wanna get one of those too! I pretty much made up my mind when I saw your screen shots and your device does look like stock Android! I have a Galaxy Nexus and there's no way I wanna go back to touchwiz (I used to have a Galaxy S Captivate).

Couple of questions:

Have you tried Miracast with the Mega? I saw in an Australian site that it works quite well...

Have you tried the MHL port?

Do you know how easy would be to unlock (sim) the Mega?

Thx!

The reason why mine looked stock was because of Nova Launcher and the stock icons that it comes with. :D the rest of the device is TouchWiz through and through sadly.

Haven't tried Miracast or MHL at all sadly and mine was sim unlocked out of the box. It does look like there are services that will unlock via code for a price though.

Hey! I'm taking the liberty of digging up this thread because I'm starting to see these babies pop up at great prices used, considering getting one to use as a very portable tablet. :)

So, I was just wondering how you're getting on with the Mega now that you've had it for a while? Particularly performance-wise, have you still not run into anything that slows it down too much? If you still use it, that is?

I've started to eye the Z Ultra as well, quite a beauty, but still costs so much more to get...

I've moved on from the Mega already sadly! The nexus 7 2013 spoiled me so I'm using the HTC One/Nexus7 combo now. I don't seem to keep things for too long.

If the price is right, grab one I'd say. My biggest gripe with it was internal storage so being rooted and using FolderMount to move data to the SD card was a must for me. One I'd done that, the real potential of the device was unlocked.

What sort of prices are they hitting now? :D

That's one big ass phone. I love my Note 3 but anything larger than that and still considered a phone is too big for me.

But seems there's a market for such even bigger phones.
