The hardware in the original mini is almost three years old. The A5 SoC was introduced in 2011 with the iPad 2, and has since been surpassed by the A6 and A7, both with twice the RAM as the A5. It's unlikely that Apple will spend much effort optimizing iOS 8 for the A5, and as apps begin taking more advantage of the A6 and A7, the apps will begin to feel slower on the original mini. The retina iPad mini is essentially two generations newer, making it a much better buy if you're interested in longevity. And as others have noted, the screen is MUCH better for web browsing!

I think the iPad air would be better for web browsing with the iPad mini. You would have two zoom in a lot How ever I think the iPad mini would be better for gaming on the the iPad air would has the iPad mini would be a lot lighter

To me the iPad air is too big. Because I have an iPhone and a MacBook and also I'm not a student anymore. So I opted for something just big enough to browse which is what I usually do anyways. Not a big gamer or into watching videos, only on my 50 inch tv ;)

Thanks guys. Maybe I will return. I'm undecided because this iPad mini isn't my daily driver. I have a MacBook and a iPhone 5s so I think the speed might be good for a device that I just use when I'm not using my MacBook or phone. Although I do see myself using it for browsing more then my phone.

If you are used to the iPhone 5s speeds and retina display you should get the rmini. It will worth it in the long run.

Hello merry Christmas guys. I just got an iPad mini for Xmas, at the risk of sounding spoiled should I replace and get the iPad mini 2? I am quite happy with it but I am just worried that in a year or two it will become really really slow. If there is no real advantage of upgrading besides better screen and slightly faster processor then I will stay.

Thanks :)

If you want performance and better screen res then yes. It is not a massive increase in price either.

He said he already changed it.

Other people come to see questions asked because they are wondering the same. I like to give my opinion so other can read as well. It is much better this way than other creating duplicate forums...

Or I never noticed ;)

Got a new iPad mini. Should I swap for an iPad mini 2?

It's crazy. I find I am using my iPad mini more then my MacBook. I haven't touched my MacBook for days and my iPhone has loads of battery left over by the end of the day. I guess that's a good thing.

It can be, but I prefer my MBP for a number of tasks but I agree, the rMini definitely takes over a number of tasks and its the best tablet out there imo :)

Yah I'm thinking for editing and things like that I will use my MacBook. I ,simply use my iPad for browsing and some games which is what I used to use my MacBook for-browsing that is.
