probably stolen.
Yeah, I was going to say...
There's no way this is legit. This was definitely stolen at some point under some circumstance or someone would use it if they paid retail cost for it.

Other idea is maybe seller made a mistake on the ad. Looks like his other sales are around $50 cheaper than apple store and only modest discount. Either that or someone got it at a discount and wanted a quick sale.
Also would seem a bit weird to put a serial number in a public place such as ebay correct?
Yeah it's definitely very strange. Perhaps it was a store demo model that was supposed to be discarded or returned for some reason and then ended up being written off. Who knows.
Regardless, I doubt you'd be able to activate AppleCare on it and I'm curious as to the origins of it. I doubt the seller has a receipt.
I already activated warranty and registered it.
I've purchase used macs before and you don't always need a receipt. Many many times
I think this is a good deal for the buyer and seller. Think about it. This machine costs $2000 with education discount and no tax in some states. Plus a $100 gift card. So in reality that's like $1900 retail and the seller is selling it for $1700 - great deal but not so insane that it's unreasonable.
I bought a 2 days old rMBP with upgraded RAM for $2200. I think that's a good deal too - not as good as this but I didn't have to wait and it is a good price.
Came today in perfect condition!
Wooo hoo!
