they are grey.

what is the difference between black and grey discs?

Grey ones are unique to a certain model and will not work on any other model. Black ones are retail discs and will work in all models supported by the OS version on the disc.

At least I have OS 9 on it. I was thinking they would work since it said eMac.

I need to get other discs anyway particularly tiger and Leopard. When I get them I just install it then. I should hopefully find the retail ones which I assume would not be model specific.

thanks for the help:D

Technically isn't it possible to create a disk image, modify the image to work with your model, and burn it to another DVD? Or is that considered piracy? I've never done it, so I can't say that it works or not, but the iBook Guy shows how to do it in one of his videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngJ9q9wHcS0

Yes, but that does bring up various legal and ethical questions that I'd rather not get into.

just won Tiger retail for not much more than I bought the eMac discs.

I do have questions concerning my copy of OS 9:

1) Why does OS 9 work on my eMac and installing OS X won't? I mean those discs are specific to one machine right?

2) Will I be able to use Tiger on top of OS 9 or should I partition the HD? Also is it even possible to use Tiger on top of it since as question 1 is about the discs being specific to one machine?
