Hi all,

I just got the iPad Air and I am loving it. I only use my MacBook Air for browsing the web and playing itunes music. I don't use it for anything else ever since I graduated university. Should I sell it now that I have my iPad? What would you do in my shoes?

Thanks!

OP, that's kind of like saying "I just got a nice motorcycle. I only used my car for commuting to school. Since I graduated now, should I sell my car?" Motorcycle is nice and all but there will be times when you NEED a car.

My question would be, why you're using your Laptop for web browsing instead of the ipad?

If you have Better Touch tool on your laptop, ok - it certanly unleashes great multi touch control over web browsing ( whether using Safari, Opera or others...) but it sounds like you need to try a better browser on your ipad.

My nominations would be icab, or my current choice Atomic.
Ad blocker, full screen or full screen with tabs and other options, and gesture ( although there there still isn't anything to match a Mac laptop with better touch tool properly configured.... sad when when the whole screen is a touch pad).

I hate these automobile analogies, but I do agree with the point. I'd never go without a full blown computer in my house. There are times when an iOS still won't suffice. Now does that mean keep an MBA handy? No, not necessarily. But at least have a cheap netbook lying around just in case. There are some decent Windows 8 computers for 2-300.

Personally, I couldn't go without a computer either. I use it for things like managing my eBook collection (Calibre), banking, photo editing, along with the usual suspects... surfing, mail, etc. But my MBA is connected to a 24" monitor.

I think the iPad compliments the setup nicely, but doesn't replace it by any means. But that's just for my uses.

Well I didn't need a car for the better part of a decade, just my bikes. I've found that its easy to set your life up to not need a car.

No no that is a bad idea to give up MBA! MBA is great for many things that iPad might not do. You will regret it in the future if you give up MBA. I'm keeping both because I can't use my rMBP on my bed. iPad is great to watch Netflix movie on my bed. Oh by the way, don't you ever forgot iOS and OSX are two big different things! :apple:

Seems OP you just buy things that are fashionable. I sold my iPad when I bought my MacBook Air. The MacBook does so much more and mad the iPad redundant.

Got the ipad as a gift.

As for earlier comments, I meant I used to use the MBA for web browsing, before I got the ipad. Now I barely use the MBA. But I will probably keep it.

I'm retired now and don't do any content creation these days. My iPad does 99% of what I need. But there are times where even I still need a full-blown computer. I would say keeping it is the right thing to do.

Or you could sell the MBA and buy a cheapo Win PC just to have around for those times when you do need one and pocket the difference. That's what I actually did. Gave my big rig to my grandson (it was a monster but then I needed it for work at home) and bought a $300 netbook. I've had that little netbook for close to 6 years but it does what I need when I need a full OS.

You do realize that Safari crashing is due to software? Reports on iOS 7.1 show that even the tab reloading is much reduced.

Never buy a product based on what it's supposed to do in the future. Just waiting but it then.

I pray this is true

You can test this by using another browser such as Mercury. I do not have any problems with tab reloading when I use this browser. I am still using the same ipad hardware, the only difference is the browser software.

you can if you want and can do all your work on your iPad and also have found the tools to do it. I have done that since march 2013 when i got the iPad mini and a logitech keyboard to go with it. If you have all of the iWork and iLife apps your set.

I was in exactly in the same position as the OP. I got an iPad Air and the 2012 MacBook Air.

Since I finished my degree, I decided to sell the MacAir since I had no further use for it. I also had a custom gaming desktop which handled all my PC needs. However, I also was going on a holiday so I decided to hold on to the MacAir.

It's only during the holiday I realised how good the MacAir is. I managed to get a 3G Dongle for less than $15 overseas to satisfy my connection needs. Comparatively a nano-sim for a cellular iPad would set me back around $60. The only downside to the MacAir was the short 5 hr battery life. I've made the decision to ditch the iPad Air and the 2012 MacAir for a 2013 11" MacAir.

I was able to play COD on the 10hr flight with my MacAir and I thought that was pretty awesome.
