So..I'm new to mac. I got an ipad 2 this year and loved it so much I wanted the mac OS too. I decided on a mac mini because of it's price. I also don't care much about what's under the hood since I'm mainly a "clip watcher-email checker-homework doer" kind of user. I LOVE IT! It's so intuitive (mostly) and really easy to set up. I hooked it up to my bedroom tv and use Splashtop to control it from my ipad while using the other HD channel to watch TV or whatever. A sound invest from where I stand, even if a refresh is imminent.

Thanks to those who gave me advice about this. It's greatly appreciated. :)

Seriously, a refresh to the Mac mini may be announced as early as Wednesday, so I strongly suggest you return it for a new one if the refresh happens.

Otherwise congrats on your new purchase!

It's had a problem for a while now, but you can get the same results by adding this after any Google search: site:forums.macrumors.com

Congrats on your mini, and switching to mac!

BTW, what's up with the 'as early as next Wednesday' business? What's that based on?

But the true is, it is a bad investment right one, when people think, that we will see a refresh, don't you think?

If I would be the OP, I would have been waiting at least a week or two.
But now, it is, what it is and is already done.

Anyway ... Jasmynsway, be happy with your purchase and may serve you a very long time.

No - the mini is a good value if the mini does the job for what it was purchased.
if you only want to read emails, facebook, youtube, websurfing etc... the actual mini is more than enough for this.

maybe in the near future a new version will be released, but such a user will not care. the actual unit fullfills his needs. so.. who cares ?

I use my 2010 Mac Mini mainly as a media center, but sometimes it's fun to play World of Warcraft on a 42" TV. The supposedly upcoming SB version would lack a little graphics performance, so if I wouldn't own one I'd still go with the current generation.

To the OP: Congratulations on the purchase! The Mac Mini is a tremendous value as it does a lot and you don't have to buy an unneeded screen.

Of course Maybe the OP paid for a refurb and the value is much better at 599 vs 699, better yet maybe the OP purchased a 2009 2.53 for 589 from apple refurb that is a pretty good deal.

I don't get how the 2009 2.53 for 589 refurbished is such a great deal when it's only $10 off the original price when it was new.

I bought a 2010 unibody Mac Mini almost a year ago now and I love it. Best computer I've ever bought, and while the previous Mini's were also nice, I'd rather have the 2010 for several reasons, the first was HDMI out, the second was user replaceable ram that doesn't require putty knives, plus it has better video than the previous versions, and a built in card reader so I don't have to keep fumbling with an adapter. It's also the lowest energy consuming Mac ever made.

Not nitpicking on any version, but the 2010 unibody is a nice machine. If people are willing to pay retail for it, I don't see what's wrong with that. Apple obviously sells enough of them not to have to lower the price.

2009 2.53 refurb comes with 4gb ram and a 320gb hdd,, It Listed for 799 when it came out in Oct 2009. It is marked down by 210. When compared to a 2010 2.4 refurb the 2.4 refurb has 2gb ram and the same 320 gb hdd. If you buy the 2010 as a refurb it is 599. the 2010 may or not have enough ram for the user it has half the ram of 09. the 2010 has a slower cpu. So if you run handbrake the 2009 is a little bit quicker. The 2010 has a better GPU so it games better,, The 2009 has an external power brick that puts out 110 watts. The 2010 has an internal power supply of 85 watts. The 09 psu is instantly replaceable The 2010 psu is not as quickly replaced.

Now I own all 09 mac minis and for my needs the 09 machines are better. I owned a 2010 2.66 model with 8gb ram a dvd player and a 320gb hdd it was a bto and I sold it. It was exactly equal to my 2009 2.66 that I still have. It cost me 200 more then my 2009 so I sold it. I am not a gamer so the 10 is not for me. For some the 2010 are better. If you game the 2.4 2010 refurb is a better choice.

I want to use one more mini in my home and quite frankly neither the 09 or the 10 are good enough for me. One more thing my wife likes the look of the aluminum 2010 and If we set one up in our bedroom see wants that style So I am waiting for the refresh.
