I bought a iMac 27" 3.5ghz i7 with fusion drive and 16 gig ram and GeForce gtx 780m 4096mb.

I'm a bit upset as I only had it about six weeks. I always seem to get short changed and they upgrade the models.

I would have liked that 5 k screen.

But I think I have a decent machine. Screen still looks good.

But envy you all who have ordered the retina model

Kev

Try to call apple. I am sure there is a big chance they might give u an exception to exchange. I purchased mine at the end of last month and they gave me up to yesterday to return it

In fact no. I read rumours. But thought it would be next year lol. It's just I am off work at moment and have more time on my hands to read this forums.

Most people didn't think there was a good shot of the iMacs being available this early but it's pretty silly not to do 5 min Google search before dropping $2000+ on a computer that would tell you to wait until at least the October Apple conference.

Lesson learned for next time.

Imac i ordered is

Imac i ordered last week is marked shipped today and pick up date from apple store is on 10/29. Does it really take that long? Thanks

If you guys don't recommend cloning...

Doesn't new setups have an IMPORT feature that you can just import programs from a backup....say, used from something like SuperDuper?

The only method i use:

Clean install on the new Mac or drive
Migration assistant from old drive/Mac/TM
Install apps and drivers from scratch

It's not like you purchased a bad computer, that one will last you a long time.
I in fact purchased one similar the same day, but from the refurb side. I personally have no interest in in the 5k at this time.
If you hang around the forums long enough, people will make you regret anything you buy, new tech comes out daily, you would be very poor trying to keep up with the next guy.

Got the base model from the Apple Store today. Going to upgrade the ram with crucial. Didn't really need any other upgrades as I don't do any crazy work with it.

I had bought a late 2013 about 10 days before the release so my timing was lucky that I could exchange it.

Screen is amazing, almost unable to describe

Running carbon copy cloner right now...

Hey I had Crucial RAM in my previous iMac and it wouldn't let me upgrade to Yosemite because of it. It kept crashing. I switched back to the original Apple RAM and the upgrade worked fine. But now when I install the Crucial RAM, Yosemite crashes randomly.

This is the RAM I have:

What the hell?

Isn't that the RAM people have been recommending on this forum?

Yep. It was a pure nightmare. The RAM worked completely fine when I was on Mavericks. But Yosemite went insane. It completely destroyed everything I had on the computer prior to it because something went very wrong during the upgrade process. Here are a few photos of some of the many random errors I received during the upgrade/install process of Yosemite with the Crucial RAM in it.

You know what?

Come to think of it...

I'm running Crucial memory on my present 27" 2012 iMac

I upgraded an additional 16GB of memory about a year or two ago.

No problems when I upgraded to Yosemite.

So, I am wondering, if your situation is unique.

I did put the word out across this board that there may be issues. Let's see if anyone else is having problems.

That ram should be fine. You probably got some bad sticks. Otherwise we would have heard more by now since lots of folks use it. Could also be a coincidence and the ram got effected by the upgrade. I'd rma the sticks and try again.

Also, run the hardware diagnostics at boot (google how to) to see if ram is faulty.

I'm a little sad. My iMac is leaving China right now, only thing I changed was I wanted the trackpad rather than the mouse.

According to store pickup, two stores have the base (with mouse) in stock.

I should have upgraded shipping, I guess I'm spoiled by iPhone which was very fast standard shipping.

Hey- When I got mine from the store, they allowed me to swap the mouse for the track pad. Said they do it all the time. I would try it.

I just put this memory in my new iMac about an hour ago. Added 16gb to the original 8gb, so now I have 24.

It's so fast it opens the apps before I even think to click on them :).

In all seriousness no issues here so far. Will update if that changes.

Got mine in this afternoon, but had to go out shopping for groceries so I just unpacked it a little bit ago.

Now to wait for the 7+ hours for Migration Assistant to copy over my old iMac's backup. x_x

This is a worrying development, I was about to pull the trigger and planned to add 2 x 8GB crucial sticks to the stock memory.

Is this an isolated instance, has anybody else gone through an upgrade with issues? Presumably they are legit sticks, I would hope so ordering from Amazon.

It's all over the Crucial UK website that those sticks are fully compatible with the RiMac?!
