I'm going this instant to examine the screens my iPad Mini-R and my iPad Air under a microscope, because that's how I usually use them. It is the only way to truly settle the "ppi" dilemma for me. I will be counting each little "p"!

Once I've done this I will return to the forum seeking everyone's opinion of which I should keep.

And, in spite of what I am convinced will be excellent advice from many of you to clearly choose one over the other, I will keep both. Because, I have the innate ability "If the forums are any indication it is perhaps a SUPER POWER" of being able to make a decision about what I want without actually having to purchase an item. I know some will never be able to conceive such a concept is actually achievable and will no doubt label me a heretic, or even lunatic, it is a price we Super Heroes are glad to pay.

PS: Don't even get me started on the "SUPER POWER" of common sense.

And people who buy multiple new products with the express intent of returning one or more of them after a "trial" period, wasting time and money with purposefully superfluous purchases, they should be excised from Apple's return policy.

Well, I sure am glad you're not in charge of the Apple Sales department! :p

Apple is meeting it fiduciary duties just fine as evidenced by their results. Their customer service policy is in part responsible for that. They've had this policy for YEARS. And their profits just keep growing. So they must just have to disagree with your concern. Thank goodness! :apple:

I remember dropping my brand spanking 1 week old iPad 3 on the floor and shattering the glass. I don't think they had AppleCare+ for iPads back then. I was devastated. I relied on my iPad for a LOT (especially work). So I went to the store with a plan. I would buy another iPad, ask that the broken one be repaired, pay for the repair, and when I got it back I would sell it on eBay. That way I would have uninterrupted use of my iPad.

The Genius asked what happened, and I said "I dropped it". This was 1 week after launch. She said "well, that's refreshing!". "Huh?". "You should hear the stories I hear about screens just breaking themselves!" she said. She walked back and brought a brand new iPad and replaced it at no charge.

She didn't have to do that. I was prepared to pay. But she did. And now I am an Apple fan. Not a fanboy, but a fan. I bought an MBA (two now), a TB display, switched from Windows to OS X (mostly, not 100%) and now will buy donkey excrement with the Apple logo on it. I guess that does make me a fanboy. Hmmmm....

Nice story! By replacing your iPad, Apple have made quite a bit from you after all the stuff you purchased!

But yes, Apple are good like that. This is why I buy my Apple gadgets/computers with confidence :)

People said the very same thing about REI's return policy. Well here is what REI did in response to abuse, seriously curtailing a previously generous return policy, and thus everyone suffered.

When I first read that, I thought REI has really cut down their return policy. But this is the new REI return policy:

The new policy will limit returns on store items to a year after purchase, and 30 days for outlet merchandise purchased on REI.com.

That is amazingly generous. If you buy something and keep it for a year, I can't think that it's at all reasonable to expect to be able to return it. Well, the outlet has 30 days return but things that sold through the outlet are clearance/special purchase items anyhow, and 30 days is more than acceptable.

So in practice, REI return policy put no burden on anyone who want to try out something, and after a year, you own it!

Making millions of your shareholders rich through growth and then offering a dividend starting last year isn't doing anything for your shareholders?

I disagree.

That said, I would never feel bad about returning any device to Apple. Worse case scenario they resell as refurbished and still make money. They know they aren't going to lose money so don't worry about them. It's cute that some people are worried about things like that though.

I agree.. I would not worry too much about them. Their bank account balance is much higher than mine will ever be.
