I currently have a mid 2015 MBP 15" fully maxed out and really to be honest don't need all this horse power.

But got carried away and the Apple Shiny product won me over....I ended up ordering the 2016 MBP 15" nearly maxed out and was going to cost me 3,500 UK pounds...The whole weekend it felt wrong to pay that much for a single Laptop.

So I decided I could buy a refurb 5K iMac and 13" non touch-bar 2016 MBP for the same money

So bought the 13" tonight.....in Space Grey....looks stunning and is very small

Got it home and yes I have tested the keyboard in the Apple store.....but oh my god its horrible. Yes I can type just as fast, maybe faster on the new keyboard, but the feel and noise. It just doesn't feel right, feels cheap, light and hollow. The keys don't move and i'm sure it will not fall apart but doesn't feel good.

Plus they don't light up....I don't need to see the keys to type I don't really look at the keyboard but I do sometimes when using the shift and number keys to see the characters above the numbers, makes it harder when it doesn't light up....trust me

Then the track pad.....its far to big. Yes it doesn't click stuff when you rest you hand/s on it, but you feel it move underneath....horrible

Then there is the noise of the click, again it feels and sounds cheap.

This laptop doesn't feel PRO to me, it looks STUNNING in space grey and looks PRO, but doesn't feel PRO

One plus....the speakers are loud, louder than my 15", maybe not as much bass much loud and clear

This isn't a mini review or even a review but might help folks out there sitting on the fence currently

It might well be going back and the quickest Apple return i've done.

EDIT: According to my research, the keyboard is backlit

There's only a couple ways to explain this

  • You have a broken laptop
  • You're a fool and don't know how to turn on the keyboard light
  • You're lying and this "mini review" was about a laptop you never bought but wanted to sound angry at apple

No backlit here on the 13"

http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs/

Specs page says backlit on all models as well, is yours defective or are you not using it correctly? This doesn't help you of course, the feel is your primary concern, but I'm surprised to hear that you say it isn't backlit, even the images F5 and F6 are the backlit keyboard buttons, pictured here:

I have the laptop here and can share pictures. I'll check the settings again under the keyboard

Its the base model and can't see any reference on the Apple site about which model does and doesn't have backlit

P.S thanks for the nice comments above....fool hahahahahaha

No no it's ok man. I'll choose to believe you have it. Just this once! Haha

Is your backlight broken or what? Cause it's definitely there

I think i know what the problem is, the backlight is usually disabled (in software) when the computer detects that there is light in the room. hold your hand over the camera/light sensor and then try the hardware keys

There really was no reason for you to buy a 13 inch anyway if you already have a 2015 15 inch

Like I said in my post, I don't really need all that horse power. But your kind of right I didn't NEED one, just wanted one. It looks stunning but using it doesn't feel PRO to me

The keys are backlit on mine. Oddly though, whenever I reboot they are not backlit at the login screen which poses a problem at night when I have all the lights off and I'm not wearing my Apple Watch (auto unlock). I agree with the OP about the "feel" of the keys. After 2 days of use I'm still having a hard problem getting used to the feel, and also the hollow sound that they make.

You might be used to yours resuming it's previous configuration after all of this time, but yes, you have to turn it on (up and down keyboard brightness) with at least F6 one tick up, from there it will remember it's previous setting/session.

I have the mbp 13 non touch here. It is backlit perfectly. The Trackpad is the perfect size and doesnt annoy you when typing. One Major thing: The Trackpad click feels really ****** compared to rMB or rMBP 2015. Feels like a 15$ device. Pressing hard underneath the device creates an awful noise that makes you think something is going to get destroyed. But all in all its an awesome device, the keyboard is the best thing ever done

It's not hard to check..IMG_0315.jpg

Full size backlit keyboard kinda says it all. Troll harder next time bub.

Are you using it under direct light? As in near a lamp, ceiling light, or in the sun?

When there is sun shining on my MacBook Air, the keyboard's backlights are automatically "blocked". If you cover the camera, then they should come on.

But yours could be defective, I guess, as it's a mass manufactured product. Anything can go wrong when there are hundreds to thousands of products manufactured in a certain time.

Can you elaborate on that last bit, please? What happens when you press underneath, exactly..?
