I don't even like standing in line at the grocery store, you would not find me lining up a day in advance for anything.
----------
Yeah I often wonder this. Diapers?
I understood the standing in line back during the 3G, 3Gs, but I *thought* with the 4 that you could then preorder.
I bought the original iPhone the day Apple announced it was dropping the prices. This made me want to stand in line for the 3G-- and I did. From about 4pm until past midnight when I finally was able to purchase. It was a long slog, hotter than hell here in the South and it was all outdoors (outdoor mall).
When in line, the folks around me would hold your place while you went to the bathroom-- and you would do the same for them. In fact, at the tail end of the night for the 3G, I went for a quick bathroom run at the nearby Barnes and Nobles and when I came out the entire line was gone. They had been led into the Apple store and they were not allowing any new people. The guard at the door would not let me in and then I said, but I had a chair, and I have been here since this afternoon-- he then said, oh did you have the blue chair and are you lovetheduns? The folks I had been standing in line told them that I had run to the bathroom and should be let in-- and I was.
I found standing in line those days "fun", free wifi, water and snacks provided by the Apple store, restaurants came by to take orders for food, good convos, etc.
But once the days of the pre-order came into play I just set my alarm and ordered. Wouldn't stand in line now for nothing.
