But it has all kindsof features that the iPhone just doesn't have and likely won't have considering it's been out for well over a year now. Multi touch doesn't matter and neither does the screen size when it comes to functionality. I'll gladly give up an iPhone for a Bold. I already have a BB Curve. I'm just waiting till some important financial events happen that involve the phone number one iPhone is using before I can cancel it's contract.

Nothing to compare, both phones are for different purposes.... If you need more a business phone of course people will choose blackberries over the iPhone... But their is no other phone out like the iPhone in my opinion its the best phone out at least for my lifestyle. It is pretty much what will fit your needs..... If you need super fast email, multi task without any problems, and copy & paste then I would say go with a blackberry because an iPhone will make your life a living hell lol. iPhone is a smartphone a very good one which I have had zero problems with, I mean it can get glitchy once in awhile but think about its like a damn mini computer in your hand... its also still possible apple will deliver with the copy & paste and mms with their SDK software through apps.

If i didn't have the iPhone I would definitely pick up the Blackberry bold but, I would rather use a Blackberry javelin when that comes out :D

Hows the battery uptime for BlackBerry comparing with iPhone?

theyre both quoted to be the same.. BUT i find that my Bold lasts the full day with about 30% left... meanwhile the iphone had to be charged once after lunch... thats mainly cuz theres so much to do on the iphone and youre always playing with it.... the bold is pretty much get your info and done with it...

apps on the blackberry platform cant compare to iphone apps...

I saw one today at Best Buy( a dummy model) so I was checking it out side by side with the I phone and all of a sudden the punk at the cell phone desk tells me " Getting tired of that piece of junk?" I said excuse me? So he goes on about how much better the Bold is than the I phone. He was telling me the Bold has 13 hour talk time??????????????????? I had to walk away. It looks nice but had kind of a cheap feel as far as construction, the screen is plastic. I think I'm gonna get one just to check it out, but I am not letting go of my I phone.:apple:

still the iphone is better because it is a mac computer in your hand I widh I could get the iphone but I cant

That's laughable for two reasons.

First, if you don't have one how can you comment?

Second, the iphone is so far from a mac computer in your hands it's ridiculous. No ability to save docs emailed, no ability to cut and paste, no ability to attach docs to an email (although AI Disk comes close), no ability to edit docs, not even apple docs.

The blackberry bold battery is better than the iPhone battery! and you get tethering lol!
:apple::mad:

Anybody who has one can you post some screenshots of the browser compared to the iPhone?

and does the Bolds browser crash all the time like the iPhone? and how is the music app and the multimedia ?

I have both phones and the battery life are very similar... iPhone 3g has amazing battery life for being a 3g phone, its just people use it more for games and use it all day with apps thats why the iphone 3g seems like it has less battery life then a blackberry but definitely not true.... Bold, i use off and on it is a great device but drains just as fast as an iphone when used all day .... People are just complaining about replaceable battery but ive had tons of phones and never have i needed to switch a battery out because of the battery dying...

Browser on the bold it loads full html just like on a laptop but NO WHERE NEAR iPhones browser.

I was just told my BB Bold is going to be given to me tomorrow afternoon. So it will be interesting.

Another interesting fact is my boss (who is in the executive level) just told me he put in a request to IT about getting the iPhone 3G access to our server. Now this will be awesome. I did not know this but there is an iPhone 3G project in IT/Mobile Comm to intergrate them into our network. The only thing is they won't be company issued. They would have to be personally owned. I know our ad agency and corp. comm. units get them issued. A few executives have demanded this hence why our IT area put together a team to figure out the logistics/security issues. I wonder if it will go through.

I'll get back to you on the Bold.

Got my Bold yesterday I gotta say it's a nice phone, definitely exceeded my expectations.

Has anyone gotten the Bold yet besides the OP. This thread is great because I'm contemplating a switch but there are tons of questions still unanswered.

Anyone?

Those of you using this for business are fine, but I hate the BB for personal use. BIS is horrible. One-way reconciliation is a big minus. Like the others have stated, the BB is rock solid for business. I have an 8830 and an iPhone. There is no comparison to me for personal use.

My original iPhone just recently died (RIP) which I bought on Day 1. Out of protest and slight irritation with my situation, I decided to upgrade to a Bold (my first BlackBerry), figuring I could try it out for 30 days and switch to a 3G iPhone if I didn't like it. My thoughts:

Pros:
- Screen quality is unbelievable. Sure it's smaller than the iPhone and it's not a touchscreen, but it's the sharpest, most vibrant screen I've ever seen on a phone.
- On-board speaker is incredible. Like the OP said, I can use the phone as a stereo system in my apartment or cube (sorry co-workers!). And if you set the ringtone to "High," EVERYBODY will hear it!
- LED indicator is very useful to show you if you have any messages, voicemails, SMS or IMs waiting for you. It's much better than having to hit the home button on your iPhone to check for missed calls/SMS or unlocking to check if you have any e-mails.
- Multi-tasking is very smooth. I can check an e-mail, IM my friends using AIM, browse the internet and make a phone call without ever having to go back to the home screen (much more functional than iPhone).
- E-mail is unbelievable! So much more functional and efficient than the iPhone. As this is my first BlackBerry, now I know why BlackBerry's are #1 in the corporate world.
- Customizability. I never bothered to jailbreak my iPhone, so I consider the BlackBerry to be very customizable out of the box. Themes, fonts, font sizes and alerts are all customizable.

Cons:
- Vibrate THEN ring?!?! I think my old Motorola V60i suffered from the same thing. Seriously?!? How hard is it to vibrate+ring? There's a BlackBerry app that will allow this, but I'm not paying $7!
- I miss Shazam. :(

Draw:
- Size isn't that much different than the iPhone. I actually think my iPhone might have been bulkier with my iSkin revo. I don't feel the need to case this phone like I did with my iPhone.
- Keyboard. I was no slouch with the touchscreen keyboard, but I find an actual QWERTY keyboard to be refreshing.
- Operating system. The iPhone's UI was slick. The BlackBerry OS might not be as sexy as the iPhone, but I find it incredibly stable and quick. I haven't had any hangups or any application freezes so far.
- Browser. I never used my iPhone for extended browsing. I usually only use it to look up quick information while I'm on the go. For my personal use, I find the BlackBerry browser to be adequate for my needs.

Considering I never owned a 3G, I can't comment on network connectivity and battery life.

I still have about 25 days left until I can exchange, but I actually might think I'll stick with the BlackBerry.

How about the stability of browsing the web on the blackberry bold? I always use my iPhone to check a few websites that I read all the time (cnn, macrumors, a few car websites). I am so sick of using my iphone for this due to safari crashing a lot. I was trying to create an account for a website to gain more information regarding the MCAT, and every single time I would get close to finishing entering my information, safari would crash. I am about ready to chuck this phone out the window (the iPhone that is).

Any information is appreciated!

Sorry to hear about your iPhone. I am disappointed that it died so quickly and know you must be, too.

Thanks for a great review/comparison. It was very informative. Good luck with making a decision. You cannot go wrong with either phone.

Can anybody with a BB take their iPhone around and compare how signal strength is?

But the Bold does not have multi touch and it does not have the 3.5 inch screen! And don't forget the web browser :apple:

The web browser and the app store are the reasons I can't switch to a bb bold, no matter how nice it looks, and no matter that my work won't support iphones. After safari on the iphone, the bb web browser is beyond laughable. And moreover, my iphone has probably seen twice the usage since 2.0 came out. There are so many good apps now... apple doesn't even really have to compete with RIM... they can have independent devs do it for them.

So I'm stuck with an iphone and crappy bb 8700 until my job gives in and supports iphones (it will happen!).

Can anyone enlighten me on how is the email on the blackberry better than on the iPhone? I've never used a blackberry.

the way I understand it.... (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

The iPhone uses fetch to get mail (unless you have yahoo or a microsoft exchange account) which means the phone connects to your email provider server every so often and pulls in your emails to your phone. Because of this, sometimes emails can be delayed. If the phone "fetched" mail and then you get an email 30 seconds (for example) after it finished checking, you won't get that email on your phone until the next time the phone checks.

Blackberry has it's own servers, I believe, that stay connected to the email servers so the phone doesn't have to. When the Blackberry servers see that you've received an email, they immediately send it to your phone. Similar to the way text messages are sent to your phone through the data network. Because of this, Blackberrys get emails as soon as they are received on the server because there is always a connection to the email server. This is usually called "push" email.

If you have a Microsoft Exchange server through an office or have the free Yahoo push email that they offered at iPhone launch day, then you get push (or close to it) with the iPhone. Otherwise, it's just a fetch system.

Hope that helps.

If I get a BB Bold, I will have to get a 3G SIM (coming from original iPhone), correct?

Also, would I be able to switch the SIMs between both phones and use them both? I'm sure my first gen is useless and unsellable now.
