I saw how quickly a coworker was changing from the text screen to the home screen and what not, and I am really impressed. I'll stick to the iPhone for now, but the BB looks pretty interesting.
When I got the iphone i canceled the contract and I use my corporate BB sim in both the iphone 3g and Blackberry and all the data works etc. Makes it easy to change phones. You just don't get the visual VM only regular VM but I don't care.
Is the keyboard more spacious than a Curve? I can't type on a BB Curve, the keys are to close together and I hit two buttons at once, it's extremely annoying and I have small fingers.
On the other hand I love the BB Pearl sure type system, works awesome. Only problem is I had the BB Pearl 8120, and the call quality was terrible (a constant ringing in the ear) and the camera was useless. It was completely foggy, looked terrible. I couldn't believe none of the reviews mentioned these to issues with the phone.
And I know mine wasn't defective because I took it back the first time, got a replacement, and the second phone was exactly the same as the first.![]()
how long did you try the curve for? i like the clicky feel of the curve's kb even more than the bold's, and the bold's is already excellent. if you didn't try it for a while, you should give it a longer shot to get used to the subtle touches it takes. you probably have to type more with the tips of your thumb more than anything.
I call BS on that one..... from personal experience.
the way I understand it.... (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
The iPhone uses fetch to get mail (unless you have yahoo or a microsoft exchange account) which means the phone connects to your email provider server every so often and pulls in your emails to your phone. Because of this, sometimes emails can be delayed. If the phone "fetched" mail and then you get an email 30 seconds (for example) after it finished checking, you won't get that email on your phone until the next time the phone checks.
Blackberry has it's own servers, I believe, that stay connected to the email servers so the phone doesn't have to. When the Blackberry servers see that you've received an email, they immediately send it to your phone. Similar to the way text messages are sent to your phone through the data network. Because of this, Blackberrys get emails as soon as they are received on the server because there is always a connection to the email server. This is usually called "push" email.
If you have a Microsoft Exchange server through an office or have the free Yahoo push email that they offered at iPhone launch day, then you get push (or close to it) with the iPhone. Otherwise, it's just a fetch system.
Hope that helps.
Why wouldn't you believe this? It sounds accurate to me. It's the same as using an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile.
Really? That is disappointing. So can it not do custom categories? Man, I LOVE that about the iPhone. A lot of my guys at work have a cell phone, and then a work Blackberry. I love having a custom category of BB so I know the difference.- I have some contacts that have more than one cell phone number. Like my cousin for instance. He has a US number (because he goes to school there) and he has a Canadian number here in Canada when he comes home to visit. I couldn't stand the fact that I wasn't able to put more than one mobile number. If I wanted to add his other cell phone number, I would have to put it under another category (ie. home, work etc). ANNOYING!
Interesting. I can count on my hand how many times my iPhone has "frozen." Of course, I consider my self blessed as I have not had to take it back umpteen times and what not.- The phone froze on me numerous times. I went from the iPhone to the blackberry to ESCAPE 2.0's freezing, and encountered it again. As soon as I heard that iPhone 2.1 was out, I immediately traded with someone from craigslist.
That just blows. That would annoy me if I used SMS a lot.- Oh the SMS on the blackberry... I didn't like how it grouped it. Newest texts were at the top. OH AND GOD FORBID SOMEONE SENDS ME 2 MESSAGES ONE AFTER THE OTHER! The second one would create a new conversation - again.. hated it.
Well, you have to define better. BIS is what it is, and that is, it is NOT IMAP. It just pushes the emails to you. But it does not keep your deleted items and sent items in sync.- People say email on the blackberry is better than the iPhone... well not with this bullcrap BIS account. Stupid stupid stupid. I put my gmail account under my BIS account and waited for all my gmail mail to load... but it didn't. I called Rogers and I was told that only new messages are saved to the phone. I'm the type of person that if I have an email and it's useless (facebook or something), I will delete it. Anything else, I consider it important. On multiple occasions I had to refer back to old messages but couldn't.
Again, see above. BIS is not IMAP. They do not work or do the same things. You probably didn't have IMAP set up if you were using BIS. I never did when I had the curve.- This last one was good and bad. Since the facebook app was stock on the Bold, any facebook emails were filtered by the BIS account and I would get a notification on my facebook app. This was good, but when I got home, I would have 50 emails from facebook because people wrote on my wall and etc. I would've preferred to see the email, READ IT, let IMAP do it's thing, and then when I get home not have to delete50 emails.
I'm not sure why but it's not the same. I switched my plan to a Blackberry plan because I have a Pearl and I figured it'd be fun to mess around with the BB Messenger on occasion. Upon putting the SIM back into my iPhone there was no data coverage so I switched back to the iPhone plan. Since then I've tried putting the SIM in the blackberry and have been unable to use the messenger or any other data-related function.
Again, see above. BIS is not IMAP. They do not work or do the same things. You probably didn't have IMAP set up if you were using BIS. I never did when I had the curve.
Well, when I had my Curve and BIS with Gmail, it did exactly what I thought it would.A lot of people don't seem to understand how BIS really works. They just hear the word "push" and that's enough for them. Heck, it's not even push on accounts that RIM doesn't specifically have an agreement with.
That's the reason why I can't convince myself to buy a BB. It's just not consumer friendly yet. Their services are still more geared towards corporations.
Well, when I had my Curve and BIS with Gmail, it did exactly what I thought it would.
It pushes the new emails to the phone.
But that is it.
They are NOT in sync other than being able to delete the email from just the phone or the server and the phone.
But your Trash and Sent items are not in sync with BIS.
