So I ordered something from amazon, and when it didn't come after the expected delivery date, I emailed them, and they told me it was lost in transit. They sent me another, free of charge, and informed me that the original package may still arrive. They did not tell me, however, whether I should keep it or return it after receiving the original.

So, am I allowed to keep both or do I have to return one?

Perhaps consider doing the decent thing and returning it regardless...:)

    Had this happen.
They tracked down the first package and shortly there after send me an email stating they would be charging my cc for the second one or send me a free return label.

It was only a movie so I ended up tell them to charge my charge which they never did.

i think here... you don't HAVE to return it, but the right thing would be to return it... up to you tho...

Hmm... if it hadn't been so frustrating waiting for the package, especially since it was a present, I'd probably be more inclined to return it. I mean, it was their fault it took so long...

then if you feel that way ..keep it...:) but the fact that you are asking if you should makes me think you are unsure and don't feel right doing so...

I can't even believe that you are asking yourself this question.

    Return the second package.

    Simple.

Return it or pay for it. One night or another you will have a sleepless night if you don't, it isn't worth it.

Keep it then and wait to see if they contact you or charge your card.

I wouldn't sweat it. they probably already submitted a claim for it and by the time the courier repliew to the claim it will most likely be months.

Although if its a high ticket item amazon my be a little more focused on recouping their merchandise.

hmm, i'm going to keep it for a while, and if they notify me of any charge or obligation to return the product, I will return it of course. but until then, i'm gonna count this as my luck and their fault. thanks for the responses.

It's not Amazon's fault the first one was delayed. Sounds like UPS, USPS, FedEx, or whomever was delivering it lost it. Once the package leaves Amazon's warehouse, they have no control over where it goes next. UPS could send it to Venus and that wouldn't be Amazon's problem.

    Amazing.

    Simply amazing.

Remember, what goes around comes around.

    Listen to the Duff-Man.

    Exactly.

That Amazon quickly sent a replacement, and mentioned that the original might show up, is reason enough to return it.

FWIW, I had this happen before. Only it involved three shipments.

The order. Replacement order 1. And finally replacement order 2.

What is funny, is that I received them in reverse order.

Kept the third one (replacement 2) and shipped the other two back.

OP, do what's right and return the extra order. You'll feel better in the long run and start of the year with good Karma. :)

Agreed. You didn't pay for it, so return it.

And ethics and morals is still declining in the country. It would only be alright to keep something that was done in mistake is only if you tell the company or person of that mistake. If they say keep it, go ahead and keep it without guilt.

    Good conversation.
Let's suppose bob sends it back and amazon refunds refund his account minus return shipping.

What's bob's obligation. He returns the replacement but amazon mistakenly applies a credit.

Just curious because this happened to me as well with the alien box set.

I actually got a call from amazon and tried to explain the situation, to no avail tho. The person was very nice and seemed understanding but still credited.

Come on man - do the right thing. Amazon is big but what's right is right.

Although I understand you consider this to be their fault, you did complain and probably the second it should have been there. Patience is a virtue here. I think you should return it, but clearly your mind is made up.

The next time something on Amazon costs a bit more than you think it should, refer back to this thread. :)

    Isn't that the truth.

Here is a prime example why we pay more for things.

What was it? Something like a $10 dvd might not be worth the hassle to them or to you, but something like a MacBook Pro is completely different...
