I'll tell you why I've sent duplicate orders back to Amazon in the past. Get too many unresolved deliveries and they stop taking orders from you. And when something genuinely goes missing, if you've got a good reputation, then they'll make amends on any problems very quickly.

What was it? Something like a $10 dvd might not be worth the hassle to them or to you, but something like a MacBook Pro is completely different...

Well, he should at least contact amazon and let them know...They do make returns easy...

Who knows, they may even tell him not to worry about it like you said...

I've had the same thing happen with me (although not through Amazon), and I didn't even have to think about what I was going to do. I sent back the duplicate package the same day and called to notify them of the error.

I got three phone cases instead of just one from Best Buy last week. I called them up to notify them of the error and they seemed surprised that I would do that. Anyhoo, they told me that I could either keep them and do with them as I pleased or overnight them to the warehouse for nothing in return. The kicker was that they weren't going to send me a box or reimburse me for postage. Needless to say, I wasn't about to pay $40 to correct their mistake. If they would have given me a box or at least offered to pay postage, I would have shipped them back. But I did call them and they told me that I had two options, neither of which they seemed to take as preference.

OP, at least call Amazon if you haven't already. If they request that you mail the duplicate item back, do so. Amazon does provide boxes for you to ship stuff back, I know, so it'll work. If they say that you could keep the product and take no preference, then it's yours to decide. But at least get in contact with them, I'm sure that it will be appreciated.

1. If amazon filed a claim with UPS, the it's the UPS driver that's going to come knocking about that extra package.

2. Stealing from Amazon may get you permanently banned from shopping at the site. That means you lose all your gift certs, account info, wish lists, receipts, Amazon Prime account, etc. All gone instantly. People reported getting banned just for returning things. You're attempting to steal from them. As others said, you get what's coming to you. Here's a sample copy of what you may get:

Yeah that's motivating enough for me to run to my computer and rush to resolve the issue.

Return it.

You started this thread because you know it's wrong to keep it. You thought perhaps people here would tell you to keep it, which would vindicate your own desire to keep it. Instead, the opposite happened, and now you just look like an ass by keeping it.

A customer is unhappy, and Amazon offers excellent customer service for something that isn't actually their fault, by quickly sending out a replacement ASAP. Glad you got treated so well, but return the favour.

I returned the package today today. After pondering the opinions on the thread, I returned it because they were very prompt with their service, and it was usps' fault really. I suppose since they weren't forcing me to send it back, I thought I'd keep it, and didn't really consider the moral issues. Thanks for the responses!
