This is probably the best app to have on your phone. I currently use it as a Chrome extension and it does a great job checking for errors. Highly recommend it!

Not impressed on my first try.

I typed:

Hey how was you're day?

After applying all the suggestions I ended up with this monstrosity:

Hey, how where you're the day?

o_O

'Sent from my iPhone'

This is merely a built-in email signature. Serves two purposes: encourages you to use a custom signature (or none if you prefer), and to advertise the iPhone. Maybe some people use it to brag about owning an iPhone, but I think the majority of emails with 'Sent from my iPhone' at the bottom come from people not familiar with the concept of 'email signature or never gave the text at the bottom much thought.

Despite what Grammarly will try to tell you, it is not meant to excuse typing on a phone.

I've read that some linguists actually consider "text speak" its own dialect. Correcting to standard english grammar in these situations could actually be perceived as jarring or even cause confusion in your message. Just as an example, it would likely put a period at the end of every statement and that would convey anger/seriousness to most text recipients when that wasn't the intended tone. As a fan of formal grammar I like the spirit but I think the practical implementation won't be successful.
Periods mean anger? So I guess that means "Good night. I love you." would be interpreted as "GOOD FREAKIN' NIGHT WHORE! I HATE YOUR GUTS AND I WISH YOU WERE DEAD!!!" Darn it, and I've been texting my wife "I love you." for years.

Honestly, I think people would simply get used to it. I too am a fan of formal grammar and appreciate when fellow texters use proper grammar when they text me as I do when I text them. One of my most jarring texting experiences was when my mom finally got a cell phone and suddenly I'm getting texts from her like "R u comin over 2day?" And I'm like "WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY MOM... PERIOD!"

I know the source isn't necessarily authoritative but it was the first link in Google...

It is definitely a "thing" and well known in at least my generation.

Not a great design taking up all the space with a keyboard instead of using the area for suggestions

I started to add the keyboard. However it said that the developer can read anything you type even if you typed your credit card number or other sensitive information. Is this a valid concern? After Equifax I am a little gun-shy.

It certainly is. I had no idea about this until a few months ago (and I'm a grammar/apostrophe freak, always used to use them even with dumb phones). Checking with some friends confirmed the idea: if you look back at your texts (or those from others) you might be surprised how often people add a full stop to a text when they're stressed or angry, and don't when they're not.

Actually, I installed GBoard and have been able to delete the app. The keyboard still shows up in my list under settings. I can enable and disable as desired with no app icon to clutter my homescreen

i'd probably use this if apple didn't require there be an app icon for every keyboard installed, turns me off of using anything different.

This comment was written with the Grammarly keyboard app. It looks nifty. Gonna recommend this to everyone, literally.

This is good.

It's a GOOD thing (Steve Jobs' voice). This just bolstered what I absolutely love about iOS, it's built in dictionary & thesaurus.

Doesn't MacOS/OSX have a similar function within? Something where typing run-off paragraphs and sentences can be offered in a more concise manner?

Downloading this keyboard app as I know I need it.
