Not entirely true. We can keep our unlimited data so long as we don't buy a subsidized phone.

But only until this contract runs out. I had posted earlier about a phone conversation yesterday with a Vz rep who said "there is no way we can force you to change plans" from my current unlimited, even if I get a new iPhone. Hogwash! (great word!)

Today, I went into a local Vz store and the rep THERE said an upgrade would indeed force me into a shared data plan. That's more like what we've been hearing. These Vz reps sure are inconsistent in their supposed "facts." Wow.

(bold mine)

That's the difference right there. That one word- upgrade. What Verizon considers "upgrading" is buying a subsidized phone and signing a new contract.

Buying your phone outright, however, allows you to keep your current plan as you are not entering into an agreement of service in exchange for a subsidized phone.

tethering is not stealing, nor is it immoral. It might be immoral for the telco to charge for tethering though thats true. I'm no morality lawyer

so when you jail break a phone to tether when a company has a charge plan tied to it but you find away being charged it's not stealing?

Sounds like it to me.

You work for a company I am sure you probably do or own your own. If someone found to use your product in terms that it was not designed for for free to avoid the cost would you not want them to pay?

Same concept.. anyhow different discussion.

I know some people need it, and it is nice to have just in case, but my family recently switched over to the 4GB share plan on Verizon and we started saving a ton of money. We are all around WiFi so much that we rarely use 3G/4G so the 4GB is plenty.

Question... Is it technically legal for AT&T to throttle unlimited data customers?
For post paid yes.
For prepaid like the iPad, no. If you had unlimited data on your ipad you wouldnt be throttled. Thats why unlimited ipad data sims can be sold for a huge amount on ebay.

nope. I don't sell anything. I provide a service and I don't charge anyone twice for the SAME service

But will you actually USE it to it's extent, or are you one of those unlimited owners who only use 1-2gb cause there's a bunch of those people who just want unlimited for the title.

What's the difference? I'm grandfathered and pay $30 less my FAN. How much is a tiered plan?

The only adavantage for me with a tiered plan is FaceTime over 3G which I never used and tethering.

i have unlimited data $29.99 plan currently for my iphone 4 with verizon.

i plan to play full price for the iphone 5 so i can keep my unlimited data plan.

will my data plan be unlimited on the 4G/LTE network with verizon too? or does that only work for the 3G network? please help.

Yup! It carries over to LTE as well. It's gonna be great!! ^_^

Well I sometimes go over 2GB....I travel a lot and do a lot of driving (Average 1k miles in 4 days). While I'm traveling I like to stream music from Pandora, and I just discovered Songza yesterday so I know I'll be using that music service too. That racks up the data and I don't want to be overcharged.

Wait, if I have grandfathered unlimited and get the iP5, I can't facetime over cellular? Unless I switch... OMG! I don't even know the last time I facetimed period even with a bunch of friends with iPhone 4 series...
