I always thought of the iBook G3's design as "interesting". I'm not keen on it, but I don't hate it either. As I hear their design makes them quite durable. And the way they named the colours make them seem "tasty".

I have a PowerBook G3 that I got just recently, too. Its hard drive is probably going to die soon, but it works, and it's a Pismo model too. A 500MHz one. My wishes for a classic Mac OS 9-native Macintosh have been answered, and I didn't have to pay for this one.

Congrats on the Pismo, especially the great price. Replacing the hard drive is trivial in a Pismo, especially compared to doing anything on the 12" PB G4. If you need a new drive, ask- one of us is likely to have a spare. How big is your current one? (IIRC, something like 20GB was standard on that model.)

I don't think replacing a hard disk in the Pismo is difficult at all. The two notches that keep the keyboard in place make it easy to remove the keyboard and once the keyboard is out, I have instant access to the RAM, AirPort card, the hard disk and the PRAM battery. I don't know how difficult it is to get the hard disk out of it though. It doesn't look too difficult though.

This particular model would've come with a 12GB hard disk (as it says underneath), but the 20GB was optional. Right now it has an 80GB hard drive. I didn't put that in, I got the laptop with the 80GB hard drive. I was quite surprised to see that the storage had been upgraded so substantially, as was the RAM. It originally would've had 128MB of RAM but I got it with 768MB.

Still waiting arrival of the orange iBook. Estimated delivery day is Saturday but I am hoping it gets here tomorrow or Thursday since Friday is a holiday.

Waiting....sucks!

Crossing my fingers, hoping tomorrow is my lucky day.

Damn im impatient lol I wanna play with my new iBook! XD

I already have OSX Panther ready for it, a few program installs, Diablo II Downloader for OSX from my blizzard account.

Well, it appears there has been a problem with USPS. The seller talked to a supervisor at the post office he shipped it out at and they have flagged my tracking number and are trying to figure out where in the hell it went. Tracking hasn't updated in 9 days...

The seller has a 100% rating, I believe the guy. What I cant believe is how this is ibook clamshell number 2 that ive had shipping problems with (first one arrived with a broken screen, and now this one has vanished during shipping)

I'm not happy, why is it so hard for me to get my ibook :confused:

You shipped it insured, right?

I didn't ship it, the guy I bought it from on eBay shipped it to me.
As far as insurance I'm not sure if he put it on it. I'd imagine he did since it is a computer he is shipping after all.

You tend to get less theft when there is insurance on the package. I ALWAYS request it.

As a general point, if anyone's in need of spares, I have most of an original iBook kicking around somewhere. Should all be fine - it was just the PMU that died, on both the original and replacement main boards, at which point I just gave up on it. I think I still have its AirPort card, though as I recall, that's only good for WEP as far as encryption goes, so not recommended for anything sensitive.

What ever happened to it, Granite?

As far as we know its still lost in shipping. We have to wait until 30 days have passed until he can file a claim with USPS and they will refund him for the loss.

It was mailed out June 26th. So a little over 2 weeks and it will be the 30 day mark.

All I can do is wait... Either it will magically show up at my door or I will be refunded and have to keep shopping for YET another iBook clamshell.
To be honest I really hope it shows up. I'm tired of shopping and I really liked the orange one I found :(

The seller mentioned this has happened once in the past. After 36 days with failed tracking, another customer of his finally received his item. This was already days after the seller had refunded him too.

Hopefully it will turn up... If not maybe you could get a better one with that money.

Oh, always liked the orange clamshell and iMac G3. I keep my fingers crossed for you. Hope it will arrive!
Despite their shortcomings, the clamshell iBooks are lots of fun! They're great for Sim City 2000 and running OS 9. I've always loved the palm rests and keyboards on the clamshells too. Word processing with 9 and MS Word 2001 is really a great experience. Office in OS X is harder due to the low screen resolution, but they really are a joy to type on.
What about Open Office or Apple Works (the latter for X and 9).

The Apple gods must be smiling down on me.

A little while ago I decided to take a look at the tracking for my orange iBook Clamshell that has been AWOL for weeks, and tracking has FINALLY updated!!!:eek::eek:

I will be recording a brief unboxing video tomorrow just for the purpose of showing if it got damaged during its mysterious voyage that usps has put it though.
I do imagine it will be fine since it is shipping in the original box, even if the packaging isn't original. The seller seems to be known for doing a great job packaging items.

Its an update! Tomorrow I will take some pictures for this thread, and finally get to load it up with OSX Panther and play with it :)

Did you get to keep the original despite the busted LCD?

Its in! Its working great! (beyond OS9 troubles)

I have since already taken it apart and removed the old and VERY LOUD 6gb hard drive that was in it. Put in my 60gb and installed a fresh copy of os9 on it.

SADLY my fricken OSX 10.3 panther install discs didn't end up right. I cant boot from the first disc. I really want panther on this laptop :(

My Os9 troubles:
I cant get it to update. Its 9.0.4 and i have downloaded the 9.1, 9.1.1, and 9.1.2 updates and none of them will launch. Obviously they have to be done in order but it just isnt letting me update. Gives an error code of type -39 :(
